Passionate advocates from across the country have joined us in Washington, D.C., for Breakthrough T1D on the Hill (formerly Government Day) for four days of community building, briefings, volunteer recognition, and representing the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community on Capitol Hill.
CEO Aaron Kowalski shared our State of the Foundation update, and we presented the Breakthrough T1D Mary Tyler Moore Award to Princess Padmaja Kumari Parmar of Udaipur, India, with Mary’s husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine honoring Mary’s legacy. It was a powerful evening! Princess Padmaja’s remarks inspired the room.
Diagnosed at the age of 5, Princess Padmaja is turning her platform into action - raising awareness, challenging stigma, and advocating for people with T1D worldwide.
Now, our advocates are taking their lived experiences to Capitol Hill, meeting with Members of Congress and calling for sustained Federal research funding, including the Special Diabetes Program that helps power T1D breakthroughs.
