The British in general and the English in particular should heed this: "The concept of tolerance is not demonstrated through tolerance of the intolerable".

I assume Sunak is running because he thinks he can turn things around and win the next election - to do that he needs to tie the voters in who are threatening to leave for Reform - he won't do that if he goes soft on Brexit, NI and cultural issues 🤔

@stephenj_colvin If Sunak becomes PM the Party will be down to single figures in the opinion polls by Christmas.

It feels like we are in the EU again. If you vote and get the answer wrong you keep voting again until you end up with Rishi

@calvinrobinson Your shepherding efforts are rounding up a political flock quite nicely. Well done, keep up the good work.

Pleased to see movement in the right direction. The SDP has always been willing to talk to everyone. Leader, William Clouston, will join me on Common Sense Crusade, Sunday 2 pm. Also joined by UKIP leader Neil Hamilton and Reclaim leader Laurence Fox. We’d love Reform to join.

Reform UK & SDP Agree General Election Pact @TiceRichard said, “Since day 1, the SDP have engaged in grown-up, constructive talks about where and how we might work together to offer a credible challenge to the establishment parties." 📄Read in full here: reformparty.uk/reformuk_sdp_g…

@drchrisnewton Don't forget Alfred the Great if you want a bank holiday for England, after all he laid the foundations of the nation.

I've always said that if we had another bank holiday it should either be St. Edmund's Day (in England) or Trafalgar Day.

@BrendanQuantock @linmac232 @yelseldusty Well put. Even if there's no 'official' Lab/Lib electoral pact, the Rejoiners will vote for who they think has best chance anyway. It must be countered. BJ & NF must hold immediate talks if Rejoiner MPs force GE.

Boris didn't back anyone, let alone Truss. It's untrue. The very thing Maitlis and co are supposed to call out, not create. Political hacks are always decrying the loss of trust in UK politics yet they're happy to reduce trust further by adding their own conspiracy theories.
emily m@maitlis

Worth considering this could be exactly the end game Boris Johnson had in mind when he endorsed a weak candidate he could see would quickly and irredeemably fail. Whilst it may look like a shambles from the outside, it might just have been playbook politics…

@dazdryden1 @linmac232 @yelseldusty At the moment Labour does not need a LibDem electoral pact, but if there is a Conservative recovery in the polls then they will. A Con/Reform electoral pact is needed to counteract a Lab/LibDem pact.

@BrendanQuantock @linmac232 @yelseldusty There's no clear win for anyone in this scenario, mate. But, a GE early next year will out-manoeuvre Nigel. The way Truss was swatted aside shd be a wake up call for us all. The consequences of a GE Con wipe out is the destruction of Eurosceptcism in Parl. We need Nigel in Parl.

I think recent events mean resort to US Army acronyms: the Conservative Party is well and truly FUBAR. It has finally failed the test of a realignment in the electorate. Next few years we find out if Labour can pass it - the signs are not good.

@linmac232 @yelseldusty GE early next year & Cons must agree electoral pact with Reform. Too much is at stake. Con Eurosceptic MPs inside Parl & Nigel/UKIP/BXP outside, together made Brexit possible. This time we must put all our faith in Con MPs & BJ to deliver. This GE, Cons must make big decision.

My sincere anxiety/fear is that Boris Johnson simply has too much baggage and “history” to ever allow the Country, Government and Party to move on and look forward. He made too many mistakes. We need a new, fresh chapter. We need and want @RishiSunak #Ready4Rishi
