One of the reasons I love planes so much is that you can point to literally any part of the plane and ask "what's that for?" and get a fascinating answer. Everything has a function. Nothing is cosmetic. Why are the engines of the F-14 so far apart? Why are the wings set so far back? Why is the canopy set so far forward? What are those darker panels at the trailing edge connection of the wing? Every design decision was driven by engineering. I love getting to stare at these planes and just let my curiosity take control.
