The last time Illinois played Ohio State:
2,879 days ago (11/18/2017), Lovie Smith's second season at Illinois.
Illinois' managed to attain just 105 total yards on offense with starting QB Chayce Crouch completing just 4 passes for 16 yards. Dre Brown and Kendrick Foster rushed for a combined 85 yards on 19 carries. Reggie Corbin was Illinois' leading receiver with just 8 yards on two receptions.
Ohio State attained 543 total yards on offense en route to an easy 52-14 win that featured three different quarterbacks getting snaps (J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins, Joe Burrow)
Illinois converted on third down just once finishing 1-12 and attained just 5 first downs compared to Ohio State's 27.
Illinois' win probability was essentially zero (0.1%) for the entire final 49 minutes of the game per ESPN.
With the loss, Illinois fell to 2-9 (0-8) and Ohio State improved to 9-2 (7-1)
Needless to say, dark days for the program with Illinois having come a long way since this

@DPiper247 Congrats on a fantastic run! You’ve left a tremendous imprint on the Illini beat, making it better for readers and viewers alike. Thanks for all your work on the TV side, had a lot of fun documenting so much history with you for all those years. Welcome to the other side!

My 12-year sports media career has been the ride of a lifetime, and I've been lucky enough to spend 9 of those years at a special place in Illini Inquirer.
But it's time to do something different.

@BretBeherns Belated, congrats on your new gig at Country Financial. I'm sure that you've found out that there are many former media folks who work there as well. I have many friends who work there and both my parents worked there for 40 plus years until their retirement. God Bless Bret! 🙏

@BobZuppke What was your favorite moment of the Matic Vesel era?

Today was the 2nd installment of our career speaker series: “Making a career in athletics outside of being a pro athlete.” Huge thank you to @BretBeherns for coming up to talk to our students about a pathway into sports broadcasting! @NCHSOFFICIAL @NCHSRedhawks @JThornton_NCHS

Nearly 25 years ago I walked into WQAD as an eager, wide eyed, and probably unprepared intern. I knew very little. The ONE thing I did know was that this is something I always wanted to do.
I grew up right here in the Quad Cities flipping channels as fast as I could as a kid. I'd go from Thom Cornelius/Dan Pearson to Don Sharp to Dan Burich as fast as I could to get as much local sports as I could. I couldn't get enough. And for a quarter century I lived and breathed local sports. I've been beyond blessed.
But here's the thing - that 20 year old intern has turned into a 45 year old happily married father of 4 extremely busy boys. Seems like it happened overnight.
My time at WQAD is coming to an end. I've got 3 weeks left. My final show will be November 10th.
There's several reasons why it's time. But there's no 4 better reasons than those aforementioned boys of mine. Being a dad is hands down my most important job in life. My wife is an absolute rockstar. She's gladly allowed me to do what I love. But it's time to get off work before 11pm every night and work a few less Saturdays.
It's also time for some new challenges. I try to teach my boys that the best things you'll do in life are outside your comfort zone. Well - after 25 years - I've gotten pretty comfy at WQAD.
I'm super excited about the future and opportunities ahead. I won't be a stranger to QC sports. More on that soon.
There are SO many thank you's to give and memories to share. That's what these next 3 weeks are all about. Let's have some fun along the way. It's been one heck of a ride!

@srrichey Wasn’t prepared for an Andrew Marty
2019 three TD game against the Illini reference this morning Scott…

Notable.
Either this makes it a real #Illini blowout or Purdue just got some real Andrew Marty vibes going. #IYKYK

Quote of the day from Brad Underwood, when asked about who would take the game-winning shot for the #Illini this year. "I need to know who makes them... There's a lot of guys you could throw them to. There's not enough guys with *long pause* ... a sack big enough to make them..." A prompt look back at the TV cameras: "Sorry!" 😂😂
