Read my lips. 👀
As babies learn to speak, they use more than just their ears to learn about the sounds we are making.
They also use their eyes, studying how subtle movements and different mouth shapes produce a variety of sounds - and then working to emulate what they see.
Here’s a cool example.
Watch as this dad whistles for his daughter. After a few examples, she gives it a try - pursing her lips and vocalizing a high pitched squeak.
What an amazing observer!
It’s a great reminder of the importance of face-to-face interaction.
Get up close and talk with your baby. Your face is teaching valuable lessons.
