To say I feel honored to be featured in a CNN article titled “Meet the Future of American Politics” is an understatement. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too young or too inexperienced. Let’s restore government to being “For the People, Not the Party.” cnn.com/2018/10/30/pol…

Brett Ries is back argusleader.com/story/news/pol… We have to analyze whether the government is engaging in content or viewpoint discrimination here, which it's not allowed to do; this bill goes too far by adding drag performance; federal courts have ruled that's viewpoint discrimination

Thank you for sharing my recent accomplishment and TEDx talk, @argusleader! I knew back in January legislators were going to attack drag. I decided to take an in-depth look at the legality of what they were trying to do. Link to my research is in the article.

A recent graduate of Duke Law School with South Dakota ties just won a national award for his research on how drag bans violate the First Amendment. argusleader.com/story/news/pol…

Instead of protecting ALL protected classes, the Court departs from its anti-discrimination + Free Speech precedent so individuals and businesses can discriminate more in the public market. This case was an LGBTQ+ case, but EVERYONE should be worried about its implications.

Across the country, state legislatures have been discussing bills that could place limitations on drag shows. In recent months there have been at least eight states considering these types of bills, including Nebraska. bit.ly/3w9QyzG

Speaking of tips, here are some (from a drag queen and soon-to-be lawyer): (1) Drag shows can be kid-friendly. (2) Forbidding public universities from hosting or funding student-org drag shows would likely violate the First Amendment, so don't even try!
Speaker Jon Hansen@SpeakerHansen

I’ve had a number of very upset people asking me about the “kid friendly” drag queen dance show taking place at SDSU. Yes, they are actually inviting children to come with $1 and $5 bills to tip the drag queen dancers. Here’s the correspondence I sent to the SDSU President:
