Your best is enough. We all make mistakes. We've all done things we're not proud of. Some of us have suffered in ways no one will understand. Doing your best is enough. Even if your best isn't the greatest. Your life has value. You are valuable and you deserve to be happy. Don't be ashamed of asking for help. You deserve help. It can get better. You are never alone.

@Moonlight_myths That’s a really difficult situation. I would have another serious conversation with her about talking to a therapist. It’s easy to adopt that mentality: I’m not cut out for work. She hasn’t really tried work yet. It’s rewarding. It doesn’t need to be soul crushing.

My daughter is 19 years old, and two weeks ago I heard something that is still buzzing in my head. One afternoon, she sat down in front of me at the table as if it were a normal conversation and told me she no longer wants to study or work. Just like that, no discussion, no alternatives. I thought it was a moment of frustration, something temporary. But it wasn’t. She said she had already thought it through, that this life wasn’t for her, and that she wanted to “live in peace.” Then came the worst part: she wants me to support her financially. At first, I assumed she was only talking about herself. But no. She also wants me to support her boyfriend, a guy she met six months ago who doesn’t study or work and, according to her, is “looking for his way.” She explained that he needs emotional stability, that he has had a difficult life, and that it would be best if he came to live with us. In my home.

Living in a “war zone” at home can change a child’s brain. A study from Stanford University reveals that children raised in high-conflict households—even without physical abuse—show brain changes similar to those seen in combat veterans. Researchers used brain imaging to examine the effects of ongoing verbal hostility, frequent yelling, and chronic emotional tension. They found heightened activity in the amygdala and other fear-processing regions, along with alterations in the prefrontal cortex, which governs emotional regulation and decision-making. Essentially, the brain adapts as if it is constantly preparing for threat. This shows that chronic emotional stress alone can impact neurological development, affecting attention, impulse control, memory, and social-emotional growth. Experts emphasize the importance of early interventions, conflict resolution programs, and nurturing communication to protect children’s developing brains. Emotional climate in the home matters just as much as physical safety—and can shape lifelong mental health, resilience, and stress response. Takeaway: Calm, responsive parenting is not a luxury—it’s a biological necessity for healthy brain development." From Kids Corner

Kids who read daily: -Are more creative -Do better in school -Have stronger imaginations -Develop stronger communication skills Compared to kids who dont read daily. Start reading to your kids as soon as possible. Fill the house with age-appropriate books. Schedule regular trips to the library. Building a love for reading gives kids a massive advantage in life.

Natural supplements I love that are actually backed by robust evidence with good side effect profile: - ginseng - ⬆️ libido, ⬇️ fatigue - garlic - antifungal/antimicrobial - turmeric - ⬇️ inflammation* - berberine - ⬇️ glucose, ⬇️ LDL - omega-3s - ⬇️ triglycerides, poss. adjunctive treatment for depression - creatine - ⬆️ exercise performance - methylfolate - poss. adjunctive treatment for depression 🚩 Supplements I would NOT play with: - St. John's Wort - interacts with basically everything, bad side effect profile - 5-HTP - only active for a very short time in the body, SSRI-like interactions - ginko biloba - meta-analyses = 🚫 no meaningful benefit for cognitive ⬆️ in healthy adults - activated charcoal - 🚫 evidence for mental health or detox; can interfere with medication absorption; DO NOT TAKE if you're on birth control *Note, this should be taken with piperine or black pepper to be effective and does interfere with muscle growth. (You need some inflammation to build mass.)

Germ theory denialism is the pseudoscientific belief that germs do not cause disease and that germ theory is wrong. It thrives in the alternative medicine and anti-vaccine communities. To get a feel for what it’s like being in these communities, you can go directly to the source. For example, on Facebook, I joined the group “Terrain Model Refutes Germ Theory.” It has over 50,000 members. Here’s the group promoting an onion foot wrap—an apt symbolic representation of the quality of its information.

You need to know something: you matter. Your life may be in shambles, or you may imagine a bleak future. None of that matters. You matter. The Universe needs you. You may not understand it now, but one day you will. In that moment, you’ll realize you matter. Image by @grok
