Gaelic Keeper Coaching - Dr. Donal Hughes
Huge credit to Rory Beggan’s leadership, knowing the rules and convincing (educating) the referee that the line ball must be taken. Any other man wouldn’t have succeeded. 👏👏👏 Add the 2 pointers and setting up the goal. That’s the difference this man brings.

@TomasORuanaidh Didn’t know it was an option to renege on the score - is this actually in the rules or just made up today?

That will be an interesting advantage conversation later...Meath score a point, decide to renege on it and go back for a 2-point free 50 odd yards from goal, it's missed... back to a two-point game, 51 mins

@CahairOKane1 So you’re saying it has to stay but refs should just enforce it a bit but not fully?

The 50m penalty has to stay, but refs probably need to relax on it a small bit is all. Give the benefit of the doubt for a second to fellas handing the ball back. Use it just in the instances where a player blatantly holds on to the ball or rolls it away. Problem solved

@PlayerGaelic ‘relies on player honesty’ 🤣🤣🤣 So the rule with the most severe penalty cannot be watched by a single official!!

@BrianCardiff How club refs may find new rules? Thrown in - ok 40m arc - ok if clubs mark it clearly Kickouts beyond arc - ok Solo & Go - ok Advanced Mark - not ok - needs to go Passing to keeper - ok, except for large rectangle rule 3v3 - not ok - can’t be watched - relies on player honesty

When club football starts, referees won’t have the help they get at county level. Rather than criticise rules and point out potential problems, coaches and players can make refereeing easier by playing the game the way it should be played. It is only league football, after all.

@PlayerGaelic So you’ve just picked the one example where the free is taken at the spot…. Still you haven’t responded to the original point I’ve made about acknowledging that the rules will be more or less impossible to implement with one official!

@PlayerGaelic An easy score (potentially 2 pointer) for the opposition is a ridiculously heavy punishment for a momentary mistake, no?

@BrianCardiff I think it would be according to what rather than who, Brian; the ‘what’ being the rules. 3v3s are going to be fine, most of the time. No self respecting forward wants to be chasing back into his own half. There will be momentary mistakes, but no deliberate tactical moves. 😜
