I have been trying to get off of personal Twitter more and more, so the conflicting ideologies made this class hard for me on the Twitter aspect. #diglitclass
I have struggled with tweeting this semester. It's just never easy for me. I'm always struggling to put my thoughts into tweets for some reason. #diglitclass
Students and families have become so worked up over grades since they believe that's how they'll succeed in life. That getting A's is the only way they'll good a good job, rather than having the skill and knowledge for it
#diglitclass
@HaskellCaleb I agree. It would take a total shift for me to only worry about my learning instead of my grades. I'm not about to spend $800 on a class again. #diglitclass
Honestly though, who could blame us? There is just too much on the line to not worry about earning good grades and test scores. Financial aid, college acceptance, career fields, among many, many other factors, all ride on whether or not you earn good marks! #diglitclass
@HaskellCaleb It's such a revolutionary concept that students might be able to succeed better if they drop out. Even writing that, "drop out" has become associated with negative sentiments. #diglitclass
My heart goes out to students who thoroughly dislike school and everything it has to offer. Allowing them to leave and pursue other endeavors should not be as frowned upon as it is now! #deschooling#digLITclass
The guiding principle's of North Star seem to be in line with what the theory of educy is all about, getting people to learn as much as they can the best they can. None of them stand out to me as being a potential problem.
#diglitclass
Well I finished this semester with about 350 tweets on this profile! That averages about 22 tweets per week, two tweets more than what is required. Does that I mean I get any extra credit? #lol#extracredit#digLITclass
For the most part it seems that learning has taken the back seat in education behind grades. Grades are supposed to help us develop our schools, not guide them.

@tneefe I don't know if basing it purely off student reviews would be a good idea. However, shouldn't all teachers be liked in some way? Interesting thought. #diglitclass
I don't think North Star's system is very practical for most schools though. They have individual counselors for students. Most schools just can't come close to affording that. #diglitclass
I think the guiding principles of North Star are great. They focus on the individual student more than anything else. You can tell they really want students to succeed in any way they can, even if that way doesn't involve school. #diglitclass
I think Sudbury Schools are an intriguing idea. However, I would need to see more studies about the effectiveness. I'm not doubting their value, but just because something is radical doesn't mean it's good. #diglitclass
I think a lot of the importance on grades and tests depends on individual teachers and school districts, but I agree that the rise of standardized tests has made students care more about tests because they're more worried about it and the consequences of the scores.
I think teachers should "unlearn" as much as they can before teaching. I think it's a process that will take time though. And not all of the old ways are bad. I think it's more of a trial and error thing. #diglitclass
I think unlearning means to break free of the traditional methods of learning that we have ingrained in our minds. Just because we went through school in one way and have observed it in action doesn't mean that that's the only way to go about it. #diglitclass
