You know that experience where you have a study Bible but more often than not the commentary simply skips over the obvious, hard questions you have as you read Scripture?
I’m wondering if there’s a study Bible out there that actually tackles such hard questions head on and generally does have helpful content in the notes where many others just talk around an issue.
I’m not looking for a life application Bible or one that is encouraging, or shares cool insights. I’m specifically hoping to find one that regularly offers good answers to the tough questions that come up when you are reading through a book of the Bible. To some this could come off like a silly request. It may seem like “isn’t that what every study Bible does?” But I don’t think that’s the case.
I recently looked up a few different ones and their handling of the issue what James means by “law of liberty” and it was really disappointing to see that they just talked vaguely about it and left obvious questions that serious readers would have unanswered.
Any candidates out there for “best study Bible for answering tough questions of interpretation that most study Bibles don’t answer very well”?
If one truly stands out I’d love to know it and may recommend it to others.
EDIT: No worries if people don’t have a recommendation but, for clarity, I’m not asking about commentaries, websites, or other resources. Just a “Study Bible.”
One of my favorite verses in the Bible. I wrote my dissertation based off this verse. Preaching matters. But so does godly, biblical listening to the preaching of God’s Word!
Once this season’s over, @pringle_byron will have a lot more time on his hands.
Promise to a Pringle: if this post gets over 10K RTs, we'll give Byron a year’s worth of #Pringles to distract himself with.
