Another thing, tapping doesn't work in the street, so don't think they'll abide by those rules. I got sucker punched by someone I had a problem with earlier at a party while sitting down. Broke my nose bad. We ended up on the ground and he tapped and yelled "I tap". I broke his arm. I'm a reasonable person and still did it. What do you think an unreasonable person would do?

Rules for survival in a street fight from an idiot who used to get in too many fights when he was younger. 1. If a fight is imminent and you can't deescalate it, do not wait for someone to hit you. There is a line of personal space after trying to calm the altercation that needs to be addressed if crossed. If it's going to happen, the safest bet is to initiate contact. Punches kill, the pavement kills. Don't let someone hit you first. 2. If you're stuck engaging in what I call fight foreplay, your posture should be a defensive one. Don't stand with your arms in your pockets, by your sides or crossed in front of you. If the person is getting closer to you. Keep distance using your arm to keep them away from you. You want to be outside arms reach. Be defensive without putting your hands up to fight. Act Italian and use your hands to express what you're saying. They'll be in a defensive position without looking like you put your dukes up. Don't mean mug, don't stare down. Eyes on hands, hands kill. Knife in a pocket? Notice it. You can tell a lot from a facial expression. Peripherally, see if he has friends. Getting attacked by multiple people sucks, trust me. Getting attacked by multiple people from the front and back is far worse. Don't let people get behind you, keep moving back to avoid them from doing so. 3. Headbutt range is a red zone. Headbutts end fights. If they're in that range then one of you is likely going to be on the receiving end of one, don't let it be you. 4. Stay off the ground. I can't stress this enough. I don't care how good you are on a jujitsu mat, this isn't the gym. People have friends, those friends will kick you. I almost got killed being cocky and taking it to the ground. Caught a steel toe to the head by his friend. 5. If we are talking about a street fight that can't be avoided and not two gentlemen engaging in fisticuffs to settle an issue, then help your friend if he's in trouble. If someone hit my friend, he's fighting me too. There's no rules, this isn't the ring. Don't stand by when your tribe is attacked, this is a different world than it once was. Fight one, fight all. 6. Once again, this isn't the ring and there aren't rules. If you're being choked and have an opportunity at an eyeball, take it. Balls? Go for it. Bite a hunk of flesh? Chomp. Fingers? Wishbone. There's no ref to stop it if you get knocked out. Remember, you're being attacked, there's a chance he's going to kill you. Defend yourself with everything you got. Watch the videos of people getting stomped after a KO? Don't be him. 7. Avoid situations where fights may occur. Always try and calm the situation. A fight can cost you money, your freedom or your life. It's not worth it. If it's inevitable, then you do everything you can to win. Just remember, it's a lot easier to say excuse me to someone you bumped into than it is to explain to a jury why you hit someone and their head hit a curb and they died.
