I had a grower ask me yesterday. How cheap do you think you can raise 180bu corn and I told him I thought I could do it rather cheaply, and it got me thinking. Which inputs and what rates are you the most confident in when investing your seed/fertility dollar

Based off appearance of trucks and nothing else, I’m going to guess hauling anhydrous, cattle pots, and feed are the three best paying in the industry

@drew4955 I wish Hutson would have bought our store. Near as I can tell Deere really doesn't care unless your dealership goes to bat for ya.

(Long read) Historically, we were a Red equipment farm. Over the last 10 years, due to mainly dealer support, we have transitioned to almost all green iron. I’ve always been a believer in “all machinery breaks.. it just comes down to the service we can get when it does break” This machine went down on a Sunday… within 30 minutes, the first @Hutson_Inc employee pulled in the field, and within a hour, a service truck pulled in and started diagnosing. By the following Tuesday @JohnDeere was aware of the situation, and waiting for more updates. This machine was out of warranty, and I’m not the original owner, so what kind of support we would receive if any was a toss up. But everyone was in agreement that 1600 hrs is too early for this type of engine failure. John Deere, and Hutson have been great through this, and are stepping in making the situation right in our eyes. Making an unfortunate situation, alittle less painful. This is the kind of service and support we hope for, and is the reason we will be Running green paint for years to come!
Drewby 🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️@drew4955

Trying to keep my emotions outta this one, but man. This is a tough pill to swallow. John Deere 13.6 lt. 1600 hrs on the engine. Been maintained as it should, and looks like it’s going to be getting a crate engine.. Out of warranty… i sure hope this isn’t the standard for late model equipment, if it is, we are in for a world of hurt… Local dealer has been awesome to us so far. No complaints there. Curious if we will see any help from the top or if we are going to be on our own with this one…

@ZachLahn Out of state land owners have to have to lease the ground to someone right? The extra property tax burden will be passed on to the tenant farmer. This is nothing more than a cash grab from farmers to the state.

Over 20% of Iowa’s land is owned by out-of-state investors treating Iowa like an annuity. They’re keeping our young farmers off of land, not participating in our communities, and artificially inflating valuations. If a two tiered property tax system is unconstitutional (I don’t believe it is) then we will create an out-of-state land owner’s license (similar to hunting) with a yearly fee equal to the property tax for each piece of land that is owned. This will be called The Iowa Land Heritage Fund. Those funds will go to helping young Iowa farmers buy their first acres, and start their farming legacy. If you don’t want to pay the fee, don’t buy the land. IOWA IS NOT FOR SALE. IOWA FIRST #LFG

@BrianSanden8 Sounds like a deal. Knew some guys that were paying $950 if they could get it. Just depended on your location. Potash was over .60 early on but came down that same year

We’re currently hanging above .80 on 18-46-0 (Dap). It’s went up since put in first 100 ton. Anyone remember 2008? Even potash was around .50 for those who weren’t in business. Tough few years there…. #fertlizer

Nice gains in the soybean market today. To think with 60 more days like today, the CNN farmers might be able to break even this year. Good thing they all have shiny new grain bins to store their crop in.

Kind of excited about this new experiment, calling it ABC, Anything But Corn. Have this farm that comes as part of a package deal, and it sucks to farm, no matter what you do. But corn really sucks. They buried the best dirt building the terraces and it yields like shit 1/2

So for all of you fancy Draper guys out there, do they pick up lodges/leaning beans better than an auger head or similar? Also if a guy cuts at 3.5mph because of the knife speed how much faster could he run with a Draper? I’m not maxing out my threshing capacity with a 30’ head.

@theLandTalker Hope that lease has a flex on it, he's getting off cheap. Considering we're getting mountains of trump bucks in the next couple years I wouldn't take a dollar less than $515

@braunfarm Im just trying to figure out how to lose the most per acre. If I can do better than $300 I should be able to get an ABC crew out to interview me in front of my late model equipment.

So when does this golden age of farming come? Egg producers had a chance to make some money, it turned in to a national security crisis and had to end Ranchers are finally making some money and we are talking about importing Argentine beef to reduce their income There is no one that actually wants a farmer to make money, we are just pawns
