Asked Mark Daigneault why so many players are able to buy into OKC’s system and values: “The idea is for those things to be win wins. Theoretically, those things should help us be successful as a team, but they should also help every single player individually build a good career. I think that’s part of the reason why there’s such commitment to it as well because most of the stuff we try to emphasize are things that can also enhance their individual trajectories as well as enhance the team.”

JJ Redick’s response here points to a shift happening in coaching. He attributes his growth over the past year to his work with a performance coach, journaling, and making time for self-reflection. He's also learning to “turn it on and off” and meet players where they are. For a long time, we expected coaches to have endless output (emotionally, mentally, relationally) without any system for recovery or reflection. But coaches are performers too. Their composure, curiosity, and connection are part of the performance environment. Great coaches are now creating a system for their own growth, not just their team’s development. 📹: (Reddit u/shreeharis)
