The same system we used to help NCAA coaches win Coach of the Year 5x. Different conferences, sports, and teams. One thing in common: Culture deliberately built by the leader. See exactly how you score across the 4 pillars of high-performance culture: fortitude.scoreapp.com

Change is constant for leaders. A strong organizational identity, knowing what’s central, distinctive, & enduring, anchors leaders & their teams in uncertainty. It helps everyone get on the same page, see things clearly, act on opportunities, & implement strategy smoothly.

@stephale13 Yes! Trust can be boiled down to 3 questions: 1. Do you care about my best interests? 2. Do your actions align with your values? 3. Can you actually deliver?

Yes, “earning trust” is heavily dependent on a player feeling valued and understood. But you know what else “earning trust” is heavily dependent on? Being effective. If what you’re offering doesn’t eventually show pretty clear, productive impact, you aren’t earning trust - you’re earning likability. Understand the difference and the potential for impact (or lack of).

Postseason reveals what teams truly value. Some play to win, others to avoid losing. In my experience, the best teams fight for time—one more practice, one more meal, one more road trip. Love of the experience, not fear of failure, keeps them grounded when it matters most.

Ask your staff: “What makes a [program name] player?” Have them write down 3–5 qualities, then compare answers. If your staff isn’t aligned on what it means to be one of us, your players probably won’t be either. Great teams share a clear identity and it’s not by accident.

You’d be amazed at what emerges when teams hit pause & reflect. I recently asked athletes to fast-forward & rewind 10 years: What advice would those versions of yourself give you & the team right now? The wisdom that followed was incredible & coaches didn’t have to say a word!

Unpopular take: Talent matters. A lot. Having the most talent doesn’t guarantee success, and adding a star won’t automatically improve performance. But you can’t consistently "out-team" a major talent gap. Teamwork amplifies talent. It doesn’t replace it.

One of my favorite parts of working with coaches is helping them frame their messaging. Not just what to say, but how to deliver it. The right message doesn’t help if it doesn’t land. Making your messaging “sticky” with today’s athletes goes a LONG way.

I’ve seen firsthand the ripple effect of coaches investing in their leadership. I’ve opened two spots for 1:1 performance coaching with NCAA head coaches (DI–DIII) starting in November. It’s an initial three-month commitment, designed to fit within professional development funding. Interested? Let’s start a conversation.

Question for leaders: If your team or organization has stated values, what’s the most effective thing you’ve done to actually bring them to life?

@D3Direct The magic happens when coaches embody this skill themselves. When they notice their attention drifting, release it, and refocus on the task, they model the behavior for their athletes.

@D3Direct Great question. It starts with recognizing that focus is a skill. Simply telling players to “focus more” won’t develop it. I’ve worked with coaches to build quick resets in huddles using breathwork and grounding exercises, helping players return to the present moment and refocus

Underrated coaching skill: Resetting. It’s the ability to notice when focus drifts and refocus on the task at hand. Simple, not easy. It's a skill built through reps. Learning accelerates when coaches integrate resets into practice. They create reps that most teams can’t.
