Every street Michael Jackson filmed on in 1983 is still standing. 🕰 🌃
Four days of filming in October 1983, the first music video ever preserved by the Library of Congress, and a set Los Angeles never took down.
The marquee is the Palace Theatre on Broadway, open since 1911, the oldest theater left on the street and a stage where Harry Houdini once performed. The zombie dance went down on Union Pacific Avenue in East LA, in front of the exact brick wall from the video. The haunted house is a real 19th century Victorian at 1345 Carroll Avenue.
That house comes with a detail almost nobody knows. In 1983, the same year the Thriller crew arrived, its neighborhood of Angelino Heights became the first area in Los Angeles history to be placed under the city's historic preservation law.
The city froze the set before the cameras ever rolled.
