Yesterday while watching Nepal v Italy, one of my friends said, “umpire kina chaiyo, technology le review gardihalcha ni.” That was the slippery slope. From umpires becoming redundant, we moved to fully automated sports production 360° cameras, personalized angles, dynamic ad placements (think Wai Wai instead of DP World depending on who’s watching and where). And that got me thinking… Why do we advertise at all? Advertising exists because of inefficiency, because buyers don’t know, information is incomplete, and attention must be captured. But what happens in a world where AI understands my biomarkers, my budget, my preferences better than I do, and simply orders the optimal protein bar for me? No search. No persuasion. No comparison. No brand recall. Just outcome. When the decision-making inevitably shifts from humans to AI agents, what exactly is left for advertising to do? Does the concept of “brand” survive? Or do we move from B2C to B2A (business to algorithm) where brands optimize APIs instead of newspaper ads and SEOs. If advertising becomes perfect… does it disappear? Curious about the far future.
