With the public consultation on the #CircularEconomyAct now closed and Commission adoption expected in Q4 2026, Bridgestone EMEA highlights the need for clear legislation, strong end-markets, and harmonised practices to enable a truly circular economy — including a single market for secondary raw materials.
Our priorities:
1️⃣ EU-harmonised End-of-Waste criteria for materials from End-of-Life tyres
2️⃣ Outline tyre-specific definitions to boost durability, reuse, and uptake of recycled and bio-based materials
3️⃣ Develop standards for the safe use of second-hand tyres
4️⃣ Make EPR schemes fit for tyre products
5️⃣ Promote green public procurement for circular goods
Let’s make circularity competitive, coherent, and future-proof.

🎉 Yesterday, we officially presented Tyres Europe in Brussels, inviting partners to reflect with us on how tyre manufacturing in Europe contributes to competitiveness, innovation and a resilient industrial base.
Following opening remarks from Secretary General Adam McCarthy, Tyres Europe President Livio Magni outlined what our renewed identity represents for the European tyre industry, and we heard perspectives from MEP @raulhoz, MEP @FidanzaCarlo, and Arthur Corbin of Commissioner Séjourné’s Cabinet.
The evening underlined the value of sustained dialogue. We look forward to continuing this work with policymakers and ensuring our sector is part of the conversations shaping Europe’s industrial and competitiveness agenda.

Today, ETRMA becomes Tyres Europe.
A clearer identity for Europe’s tyre manufacturers, and a stronger platform to work with EU partners on the practicalities that keep mobility moving.
For Bridgestone EMEA, membership means real industrial representation: one table, one mandate, one shared evidence base. Together, we translate technical know-how into workable policy solutions to advance a safe, sustainable and smart mobility for Europe.
We’re committed to that collective work and to advance a mobility system that’s safe, sustainable and competitive.

We're at the 1st #ESPR & #DPP stakeholder meeting in Brussels.
🗣️There is no doubt that: clear circularity definitions and a futureproof Digital Product Passport are key. They build trust, guide sustainable investments, and improve traceability and circularity — especially for tyres — supporting a resilient, innovative European automotive sector.

Positive news for the automotive industry and transatlantic trade 🤝
Under the Joint Agreement on the framework trade deal:
🚗 Tariffs on cars and parts drop from 27.5% to 15%.
✅ The U.S. and EU will mutually recognise each other’s automotive standards.
This is a strong signal for global supply chains and sustainable mobility.
At Bridgestone, we remain committed to fostering stronger economic ties between the world’s two largest economies. We hope to see continued progress toward lifting any remaining tariffs, paving the way for more open and mutually beneficial trade.

It's about a year since the Draghi Report was published — a landmark analysis that continues to shape discussions on sustainable and competitive business in Europe.
For Bridgestone, these insights reinforce our ongoing commitment to:
⚡ Supporting decarbonisation and electrification solutions
♻️ Empowering buyers to choose sustainable mobility products
🌱 Supporting pro-competition trade policies that also create a safer, greener future

🏆 Our decarbonisation journey just reached a major milestone! Bridgestone EMEA Manufacturing has completed its latest #CarbonFootprintAssessment – giving us a detailed, site-by-site view of CO2 emissions. This rigorous, independently verified process helps us track progress and identify new opportunities to go further.
💡 Result: a 69% CO2 reduction by end of 2024 vs. 2019 baseline.
And we’re not stopping there. We continue to invest in decarbonising tyre production to:
🔹 Cut our absolute global CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030
🔹 Achieve 100% sustainable materials by 2050

This week, industry leaders met President @vonderleyen in Brussels for the #StrategicDialogue on the Future of the Automotive Industry. 🚗⚡Reaffirming the urgency of implementing the Automotive Action Plan, conversations also focused on accelerating innovation in connected mobility. Tyres are a crucial part of the solution — supporting Europe’s production continuity, powering technological innovation & enabling sustainable mobility.

🚗🔒 The European Commission’s new guidance on vehicle data under the #DataAct is more than just a data policy — it’s a step forward for safer mobility.
By giving users control of their vehicle data and enabling trusted third parties to access it, the guidance can make driving safer:
✅ Real-time access to critical data like tyre pressure, brake wear, battery status, and malfunction alerts
✅ Independent service providers empowered to detect and fix safety issues quickly
✅ Non-discriminatory access to high-quality data — no more barriers to vital safety information
✅ Predictive maintenance made possible, preventing breakdowns and accidents before they happen
At Bridgestone, we believe complementing the Data Act with secondary legislation on in-vehicle data access will unlock even greater progress — advancing safety, efficiency, and the EU’s Sustainable & Smart Mobility agenda.

Last week, the European Parliament adopted its report on the proposed Regulation on End-of-Life Vehicles, aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of vehicle production and disposal while strengthening the sustainability of Europe’s car recycling industry.
At Bridgestone, our environmental targets are clear: achieve carbon neutrality, use 100% sustainable materials, and operate in harmony with nature by 2050. To support this vision, we call for:
✅ Harmonised circularity requirements in vehicle design — providing industry-wide clarity and helping accelerate Europe’s sustainability objectives.
✅ Balancing ambition with competitiveness — ensuring the automotive sector remains innovative, resilient, and globally leading.

Bridgestone is looking forward to the opportunity to participate in upcoming consultations on the #CircularEconomyAct — a key opportunity for the EU to strengthen the market for secondary raw materials.
We already use 20,000 tonnes of recycled rubber annually and aim for 40% recycled and renewable materials by 2030 — moving toward 100% sustainable materials by 2050.
Let’s make circularity competitive. ♻️

👉 The #DigitalProductPassport — a digital “ID card” for products that tracks materials, sustainability, and lifecycle data.
For tyres, this can unlock huge benefits:
✅ Greater traceability
✅ Smarter recycling
✅ A more circular economy
But it must be scalable, adaptable & based on global data standards.

The proposal to amend the EU #ClimateLaw — with a 2040 target of 90% net GHG reduction—is a major milestone for Europe’s clean industrial future. Backed by the new #CISAF State Aid Framework, it will fast-track investment in clean energy, decarbonisation & innovation.
The message is clear: now is the time to scale up clean tech.
At Bridgestone, we’re committed—cutting absolute CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030 and aiming for 100% sustainable materials by 2050. 🌍🚗
