Brighton Academy

Mayor Ben Walsh came for a visit where 3 students read letters they wrote about concerns in the community. Mayor Walsh spoke about the importance of speaking truth to power, holding elected officials accountable and using your voice to make positive changes in your community.

Brighton Academy staff and students have been having an absolute blast this last week with all of the field trips, field days, incentive, celebration of success events, and more. It’s unbelievable that today is the last full day of school! One more half day tomorrow ‘till summer!

Our 8th grade ELA students had a blissful day at the Writers Cafe hosted by Ms. King. These scholars were able to write their final copies of informational essays on the Holocaust while enjoying relaxing cafe music & handcrafted refreshments to set the vibe. @SyracuseSchools 🍪🧋

Join us tomorrow night for our End of Year Musicians Night (celebrating our talented musicians) and WolfPack Welcome (welcoming our rising 5th - incoming 6th graders to the school). The event will include performances, a building tour, and a dinner to end. Thursday, June 8th 5-6p

Jimmy Oliver, head of community engagement for Syracuse City Police Department, visited Brighton Academy today to be interviewed about Kirk Park and solutions to violence in the community. 8th grade students came prepared with questions and concerns. #ourcommunity #civicreadiness

Brighton Academy hosted their annual Multicultural fair today showcasing student backgrounds & their cultures. Students filled out their passports at booths featuring different countries while enjoying a fashion show, music, dances, & food brought in by students & their families!

8th grade has begun their final projects for 1/2 a high school credit! This year they’re creating black wall streets on a map of todays Syracuse South Side. They will add over 105 locations to the map to show what a Black Wall Street would look like today in their neighborhood!

#LostInTheDrafts We couldn’t forget to share these awesome pictures from the girls EYH (Expanding Your Horizons) field trip at @Cornell over spring break. The girls got to experience a plethora of hands on labs and activities from just about every scientific area of study there.

Staff (home) vs student (guest) basketball game was a blast. We warned the kids we were serious playing! Students who were serious about their HOWLS made it to the incentive & had the chance to try and take down the staff team. Can’t wait till the next one! #HOWLS #WolfpackPride

Welcome to the 6th grade ELA Gallery Walk! Subject: “Critical Problems and their Design-Solutions.” Students created a visual representation of the topics they researched for their essays. During the gallery walk students went around the room leaving a Glow & Grow on each project

@ELeducation project: ‘Are We Our History?’ Students visited several sites near Clinton Square regarding the Jerry Rescue & discussed if the sites deserve a Pomeroy Foundation sign to help commemorate our local contribution to fighting for the end of slavery & civil rights.

What an outstanding season for our Brighton Academy Lady Wolves! Ending the season 9-2 with a win! Basketball may be ending but we are ready to bring this energy into Softball and Track!

Kudos to the students in Mr. Hoffman’s class at @BrightonSCSD in Syracuse, NY! They will be conducting field research and proposing #historicmarker ideas. Foundation Research Historian & Grants Reviewer Zach Finn visited their classroom to talk about markers and primary sources.

Don’t forget that tomorrow, Feb. 16th, is our Black Excellence Literacy Night from 5-6:30p. The event will be filled with Poetry readings, music and dance ensemble performances, review of all the student growth/success in our building, & a dinner to end the night! See you there!
