Episode 77 of the Brit Lit Podcast is a dream come true! I got to interview @KinsellaSophie about her new book The Party Crasher, the role of music in her life, writing comedy during a pandemic, what her favourite biscuit is, and a whole lot more. britlitblog.com/2021/11/04/bri…

We did this a while back. Our fiction section is short of uplifting books again. Or we don't know which they are. So, thanks to a customer we've agreed to produce a booklist, not of uplifting books (sounds awful) but more like "novels that won't make you miserable". Over to you.

@FiveLeavesBooks Man at the Helm by Nina Stibbe - despite events that might be found traumatic this is actually hilarious and ends well. Catwings by Ursula le Guin - this may be aimed at 5-8 year olds but I doubt Le Guin ever wrote a clumsy sentence and who wouldn’t want a book about flying cats?

I see BookBub have disabled replies for this ad, so I have to QT and say that their ad copy suggesting that paying anything more than £2 for an ebook is “overpaying” is an insult to the very authors who provide their source of income. Poor show, BookBub.
BookBub@BookBub

Stop overpaying for ebooks. ✨

‘The way to write the best book is to write the one that is tugging at your sleeve. Follow your nose. I can’t think about what genre it is & whether it is commercial or historical just that it is the book that needs to be written.’ Maggie on her next book @clivedenlitfest

@Matineegirl Jealous!! definitely go to the Strand — amazing bookstore. If it was me I’d also check out The Ripped Bodice — a new romance only bookshop. You MUST go for a long walk around Central Park, particularly if it’s autumn — so gorgeous.

It’s happening….I need your New York tips. Staying on the Lower East Side. What’s the one thing I MUST do when there? What bookshops should I visit? Who has done a hop on hop off bus tour? Which company is good for this? No show recommendations (deaf ears) or bars (don’t drink)

If you can, please support independent publishing. Indies are the lifeblood in finding great new talent, and do most of the heavy lifting in developing writers' careers. They are the delicatessens of the publishing world publishing books that will stay with you forever.
Galley Beggar Press@GalleyBeggars

"The current financial situation, cost of printing and cost of living are a bigger threat to independent publishing than we experienced during lockdown." Great article from @TheBookseller on the pressures facing small presses (including us - alas): thebookseller.com/features/spira…

In the blip of being poorly last week I didn’t post any #bookpost photos so this is what arrived. Excited about a couple of these titles!

There are countless ‘hidden’ jobs in publishing that don’t get talked about or celebrated enough. I’d like to invite anyone in publishing to highlight colleagues for their amazing work (especially if their work is more behind-the-scenes) - I’ll start! #BehindThePublishing
