@HenryStaelens My eldest son has recently started playing at university. So as parents we’re now experiencing the joys of late nights / early morning ice time to support our boy.
We rarely see an ice pad empty before they start playing so the demand is clear to see.
Just spoke to the BBC about the demand for ice rinks in the UK - piece out next week.
The mainstream media's intrigue in the sport is getting less absurd each time they look at the sport - from the ridiculous FT article about why women follow ice hockey, then to the potential 'spike in interest' from Heated Rivalry, now finally true journalism about something that matters.
Waiting lists at nearly all clubs. Many hours of travel just to train. 2million tickets sold annually to league/cup fixtures. Biggest indoor sport in the country (by a long way).
The sport has grown quietly, well-past the current infrastructure available. This is not just a supply and demand issue that will 'go away'.
@steelershockey Maybe I’m just old, but I remember a time when the opposition could just simply be a better team.
Sadly these days it seems we cannot lose without there being mass hysteria, and demands for summary justice and a public lynching.
Randomly met a (British) Pens fans at the local Subway today. We talked about how much we need Sid back 🐐
Nice to meet someone who wasn't just wearing American sports attire for fashion because they liked the logo. He had a Pens stanley cup shirt so I could tell he was a fan.
@ChillKessel Yeah the more vintage stuff can often determine whether they are a fan or not. But the vintage shops up here have loads of North American sports gear so you never can be certain.
@BritPen Yeah his was a really unusual shirt, like a throwback looking Mario Lemieux/90s cup shirt so he either was a Pens fan or had a Yinzer parent 😆
@ChillKessel Many times I’ve acknowledged a fellow Pens’ fan only to have them look back at me blankly. Not always though, but I’m wary about people out of context in Pens’ gear.
@scuff7 Exactly this.
I’ve heard rumours of the likely increase in the cost of hospitality, so I reckon the ST increase is simply, and sadly, the owners of the arena increasing the cost of using the building.
People not getting that the extra isn't actually to cover 'the new benefits for an ST holder'. The extra stuff is a frippery. The extra cost is to cover running costs etc. We don't own our barn,& as other teams are finding out, those match night costs are getting more expensive

I'm not sure my posts get seen as much as they used to. But I refuse to pay for this app. I basically talk about hockey to myself on here anyway, who cares
@BritPen Yeah, I think the most likely scenario is that if he wants to play another year, the Pens will give him a one-year contract (with a pay reduction). Just trying to feel out what might happen if the Pens decide against it. Trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst case 😂
@KatieTalksPens I understand what you’re saying but I think if they can reach a deal then he’ll stay. He may well need to take a reduction but I think if we make the post season and things look like they’re going to improve then he might get offered a role for one more year.
