Never DM a coach more than 3-5 lines of text. Almost always, DMs are way too long and, today, are AI copy and pasted. “Coach I’d love to play for you. ‘27 | POS | GPA/SAT/ACT | Ht/Wt | Measurables | HS | Name (tape is in my profile) Thanks so much.” ⬆️ is all you need.

Our Path to the Championship With the legendary Indiana high school basketball tournament officially starting for us tomorrow, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at how we got here and what we have ahead of us. Riley finished the regular season with a 19-4 record (6-1 NIC), ranked #15 in the state, and winners of our last 7 games. With a schedule that saw us truly travel the state, the Cats pulled off wins against two of Evansville’s best schools in Reitz and Bosse, knocked off highly respected Homestead early in the year to put the state on notice that we were for real, and then pulled off big wins along the way against #10 Lawrence North and #17 Penn to solidify our position. Oddly enough, of our four losses…three came right in a row during a tough stretch of the season. Our first L of the year came against #7 Northridge, followed by a one-point loss at Michigan City, and then our only conference loss of the year came at #11 St. Joe, making three L’s in a row. Not exactly how we drew it up! While it was an understandably tough streak for a reeling Wildcats team that was struggling to get healthy and back on track-this group stuck together. In the weeks that followed, we would right the ship and get back to our winning ways, losing only one more game the rest of the season (at Northridge) and completely dominating the rest of our conference schedule, with 5 of our 6 conference wins coming by at least 20 points-including a 66 point thrashing of crosstown rival South Bend Washington. Star senior and leading scorer Tyrese Jones really led the way this season but he’s definitely had a ton of help! Dakori Parker has been a revelation at the PG spot and should be an Indiana Junior All-Star, Indiana Tech commit Isaiah Packer has been playing the best all-around ball of his career, and super sophomore Tree Johnson has had his share of big moments, too, while guys like AJ Neely and Teon Wadley have provided energy and depth off the bench for the Cats. It’s truly been a team effort-FOUR different guys averaged double figures in scoring this season, with a 5th guy (Kelin Webster) right behind-and as the team has gotten healthier down the stretch, things are really coming together nicely on the floor for our guys! Now, we head into the tournament, opening the first round against the Laporte Slicers, led by junior guard Griffin Ott-Large. This is another program that we know well, as we traditionally open our season against Laporte and faced off against them in last year’s playoffs as well (we knocked them out). We started this season against the Slicers with a 70-42 victory at their place but both teams knows that was a long time ago. The Wildcats will be the favorites in this opening round matchup but know Laporte, who finished 16-7 this year, won’t go down without a fight and we must be ready! The winner of our first game game will face off against the winner of the Penn Kingsmen versus Michigan City Wolves matchup. Penn finished the season with a 17-6 record and is led by Division 1 prospect Caleb Coolman, a talented guard with big game potential, while MC finished at 15-8 and is led more by their depth than anything else, as they field a team that is long, athletic and versatile. Having seen both teams this season, the Cats know it will be tough no matter who comes out of that game and we will need to be ready for a battle in the semi’s. Penn won against Michigan City 81-66 early in the season but a lot has changed since December, so this one should be interesting! The prize for a win in the semi-finals will more than likely be a matchup with #11 St. Joe (19-4), who got an easier path to the championship game on the other side of the bracket. With a bye in the first round, they are locked into a semi-finals matchup against the winner of Mishawaka (5-16) versus South Bend Adams (15-7). Adams is anchored by senior forward Jarvis Tolbert and junior guard Drew Dixon and will be heavy favorites against the Cavemen. That potentially sets Adams up against the Huskies for a chance to play in the championship game-although St. Joe will be heavy favorites over the Eagles after a 20 point drubbing in the regular season. Ultimately, we’ve got a tough road ahead of us BUT love where we are. We have a chance against Laporte to win our 20th game of the season, which will give us 20 wins in THREE straight seasons…something that has never been done in school history. And with the way the basketball gods have laid things out, we have a real opportunity at a storybook run! In theory, we could win our 20th against Laporte and then directly avenge each our losses from the regular season if we faced off against Michigan City, followed by St. Joe…and then we could potentially run into the Northridge Raiders for a third time this season in a HUGE Regional Championship matchup! Now, that’s a lot of IF’s….but isn’t it fun to think about? Our fellas certainly think so and they are SO excited for the ways things are laid out in front of us! ALL of our goals are still on the table, we are as healthy as we have been since early in the season, and we are HUNGRY to keep this going for just ONE MORE GAME…followed by another…and another…and yeah, you get it. It’s been an amazing season and this group has done so well representing us and what it means to put on that Wildcats uniform! While we know there are some tough battles coming our way, we are built for this and we can’t wait!!!! WILDCATS ROLLIN!!!

We don't know if ya heard...but we won our first round Sectional matchup against Laporte last night and everything went EXACTLY as we planned. You see, as we got ready, our game plan centered on trying to score as few points as possible. We did a great job of it, too, only putting 12 points on the board in the first half. What a plan! Okay, okay, okay, that whole first paragraph is bologna (except for the us winning part). We didn't plan that at all...but that is what happened! The good news? While we only scored 12 in that first half, we were able to hold Laporte to just 18. The better news? We never doubted. Our guys didn't hang their head, they didn't start playing hero ball, and they didn't give up on each other. At halftime, head coach Alex Daniel didn't give some inspiring speech or come in and start screaming at his guys. Instead, he chuckled a bit. "Hey fellas, I got an idea. Let's make some shots." That, ladies and gentleman, is coaching! The message was simple: The Big Cat wasn't worried. This team had shot it and scored it well all season long, so everybody knew it was only a matter of time before the lid came off. That time came in the 3rd quarter. "I guess we figured it out," said Coach Daniel with a smile after the game. Indeed we did, to the tune of 27 points in the 3rd stanza. What been a 4 point deficit at the end of two was a 15 point lead at the end of three. The Wildcats came alive! Tyrese Jones finished with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and made some huge shots along the way. Isaiah Packer played some inspired basketball, imploring the Riley fans to get going as he scored 13 and grabbed 6 boards, Dakori Parker got to the rim just enough to score 10 and Big Tree just missed a double-double of his own with 9 points and 10 rebounds. It was, as usual, a total team effort! A quiet first half became an eruption in the second and our fellas pulled away, finishing with a 58-40 final score. It marks the second year in a row Riley has ended Laporte's season in the playoffs. The Slicers finish at 16-8 for the year. For our Wildcats, the win makes 20 for the season (more on that later) and sets up a monster matchup against NIC rival Penn on Friday night at The Cave in Mishawaka. The Cats and the Kingsmen finished the regular season ranked #15 and #17 in the state, respectively, and finished second and third in the conference, as well. The two teams faced off just about 2 weeks ago on Penn's home floor, with Riley walking away with a hard-fought 73-68 victory, led by Dakori Parker with 19 points and 7 assists. Now these two teams are locked into a rematch in the sectional semifinals that is going to be EPIC...and we can't wait! THIS is what Indiana high school basketball is all about! Two teams that know each other well, college prospects all over the place on both sides, and an amazing environment to hash it all out in. LETS...FLIPPIN....GO! Congratulations to all of our guys on last night's win, you continue to make us proud! Now, get back to work....the grind continues....TOMORROW!!! WILDCATS ROLLIN!
