I recently discovered the correctR package by Trent Henderson. correctR is designed for the statistical comparison of machine learning models on correlated samples. This R package addresses the limitations of traditional tests like the t-test, which often underestimate variance due to assumptions violated by methods such as data resampling and k-fold cross-validation. correctR uses corrected test statistics to compare the performance of two models where samples are not independent. This makes it a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in machine learning, ensuring more accurate comparisons and better decision-making. For more details, visit this page: hendersontrent.github.io/correctR/ Interested in more tips like this? I run a newsletter where I share data science content regularly. Here, we use existing databases to develop a simple and rapid approach to evaluate the risk of subsurface nutrient export to the German Baltic Sea from coastal catchments.

No advert out yet, but I will be recruiting a 2yr postdoc, start date autumn 2025, at @livunigeog soon. Lowland and upland peatlands, GHGs, DOM and water chemistry. Plenty of fieldwork. Feel free to drop me a DM or email if you might be interested, and please spread the word.

What an excellent way of putting it : "When scientists 'accept a hypothesis', the more proper way to describe this would be that they are 'failing to reject it'." - Yolanda F. Wiersma (in Experimental Landscape Ecology)

Planting trees on peatlands leads to more GHG emissions then those trees sequester. 30cm of peat stores up to 327 tonnes of carbon per ha. Forestry = 145 T Ca per Ha. It does not make sense to plant trees on peatland as a climate change solution. @MHealyRae @agriculture_ie
