Are as powerful as your water and poison moves. And, you won't be hit by Electric or Psychic moves as hard.

You can still do all the things you'd normally do. Your cute self would, defensively, change into a different type.
Let me put it like this. You have a few ice type moves, but can't use them as strongly as your water moves.

It changes your type to a different one.
