@AlanDorow @AnnCoulter The Justice Department is tasked with enforcing the nation’s antitrust laws to protect American consumers. Is it unreasonable to think that JetBlue would've increased prices on every Spirit route? They felt like the merger would harm American travelers. A judge agreed.

Yes, he was wrong. Party affiliation has nothing to do with a judge’s ruling or interpretation of antitrust laws. The bigger point is that the merger should never been attacked/denied by the justice department in the first place. The results of the ultimate ruling are disastrous, both for employees and airline consumers.

It was high fuel costs that was the final death knell for Spirit -- caused by a pointless war that has left everyone worse off.
Yogi@Houseofyogi

Spirit Airlines died tonight at the hands of the socialist crusader, Elizabeth Warren She must be so proud to add another casket to her achievements. Tonight at 3am, Spirit turns off the lights. 14,000 jobs gone. 30+ smaller airports lose service. JetBlue offered $3.8 BILLION in cash to buy Spirit in 2022. Shareholders, flight attendants union, literally everyone voted yes. The combined company would have held 9% of the US market against a Big 4 that already owned 80%. For anyone who understands numbers: 9% isn’t a monopoly against 80%. Warren said no. She wrote letters. She pressured Buttigieg. Biden’s DOJ sued. A federal judge killed the deal in January 2024. Her argument: the merger would cost consumers $1 billion a year. Now look at her collateral damage she dusts under the rug. 510 pilots gone in the months after. 1,800 flight attendants furloughed in December. 14,000 jobs in 2023. 7,500 last week. Zero tonight. And that’s just the people in Spirit uniforms. Catering goes. Fuel guys go. Baggage crews, gate agents, airport coffee shops, hotels and rental cars in 70 cities Spirit flew to. Every airline job carries 3 more on its back. 40,000 people out of work because of one woman’s moronic crusade against the market. And the math ain’t mathing. Spirit abandoned 90 routes during the death spiral. Fares on those routes are up 14% on average. Oakland to Newark: $135 to $288. Fort Myers to San Juan: $92 to $219. Kansas City to Newark up 66%. That’s reality. Not some BS number from a “study.” So @SenWarren tell me how this saves the consumer money? Cheap carriers in a market drop fares 21% across the board. Southwest did this in the 90s and saved Americans $68 BILLION over 20 years. Warren killed it. That’s what moronic politicians led by socialism do. Then with her own blind arrogance, she tweeted Spirit’s collapse is “a Biden win for flyers.” A win. 14,000 people are reading termination letters tonight. And she’s taking credit. This is socialism in 2026. A senator who’s never made payroll thinks she knows how to run a market better than the people who own and work in the company. She saved you a billion on imaginary paper. She cost you ten times that in real life. She didn’t protect consumers from anything. 14,000+ will go from working to welfare. She will make sure to blame billionaires, hardworking tax payers, AI, capitalism and whatever monster they will make up tomorrow hiding under your bed. Higher taxes. Fewer jobs. More expensive everything. She called it a win. I hope you enjoy winning.

@AlanDorow @AnnCoulter Again it was ultimately a Republican judge that ruled that the merger violated antitrust laws and it would reduce competition and raise fares for consumers. Was he wrong?

@AlanDorow @AnnCoulter The only one with the actual power to block the merger is the Reagan appointed judge. He ruled that the merger would violate the Clayton Act.

So you’re saying the Biden administration, with support from Elizabeth Warren and an accommodative federal judge’s ruling, didn’t block a merger between Spirit and Jet Blue on antitrust grounds in March of 2024? That’s two years that could have improved their position in front of the current war.

@ChrisWozney @davemeltzerWON That may be true but that can't be the reason Donald Trump is in the WWE Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2013. That was well before this latest investigation.

@davemeltzerWON It's not impossible if he's referring to the 2006 tanning salon sexual assault accusation in Palm Beach County. Prosecutors dropped the case and claimed there wasn't enough evidence. Guess who has a lot of influence and power down in Palm Beach County?

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh No idea what they were seeking or why the stock reacted like that. But if Fox was truly losing 20 million a year on the initial deal and WWE got a 40% increase from that on the new deal, I'd say that's a huge win and I'm sure the stock price quickly rebounded.

@BruceJMisler @drsmoothh They did not get what they were seeking for Smackdown which is why the TKO stock price crashed on announcement of the deal.

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh Lower price was NEVER even a possibility and they knew that. Facts are facts. And again, the reason WWE ended up getting a whole lot more on the current deal.

@BruceJMisler @drsmoothh The question is whether they would've kept it at the price they initially paid for it or not. Obviously they would've been willing to renew at a lower price that allowed them a positive return on ROI.

@BruceJMisler @drsmoothh Not if you wanted to leave the door open to other potential parts of the media deal (offering a lower price than WWE is seeking because of the reach of network vs. cable, a streaming deal, etc.), even if you aren't open to renewing Smackdown entirely at that same price.

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh Sure it does. They knew it was up for renewal. It's in their best interest to act like they don't want it if they really wanted to negotiate a lower price for it.

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh If you're losing tens of millions on something and you wouldn't even consider renewing at the current price but everyone else is saying the market value is higher, wouldn't you want to try to bring the value down if you're negotiating and make it seem like it's a huge loser?

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh But you just said they were possibly losing 20 million a year on it so why not just say that. Industry experts were already saying Fox was paying under market and WWE was worth more. Even discussing potentially renewing could only increase value and potential competition.

@Pyl0ns @drsmoothh So again, why a few months before the renewal would he even say he was ready to discuss the renewal? Seems like if he was positioning Fox for a decrease he should've said, we're already losing 20 million on it. We're probably NOT interested in renewing.

@Pyl0ns @BruceJMisler Brother, that’s what he should say as the CEO when the red hot product you have (at the time) goes to a competitor at a higher price point! They knew it was gonna cost more to keep smackdown. They decided to not go down that road. Both true. They can say whatever they want after

@Pyl0ns So was he unaware of the numbers just a few months before that when he said he was ready to discuss renewal when WWE was ready? The fact is, their initial price was well under market value. That's not debatable. And also the reason they easily found someone to pay more for it.

@Pyl0ns Do you realize they didn't have an option to renew at their current rate? They had first right of refusal to renew at a specified contractual increase. They felt it wasn't worth it based on their data. That doesn't negate that the fact they initially were paying under market.
