Your post reminded me of another unusual church in China. This one is in Foshan, Guangdong. People here often call it the "Violin Church" because the building itself looks like a giant violin. 🎻 China still has many interesting places that rarely appear in travel guides.

@Bruceleegg I know that church! It's in a kind of industrial/village area of Foshan. Not only totally obnoxious but really unexpected: you drive around small houses and warehouses and then you suddenly face this "thing". It's surreal!

This might be one of the most beautiful churches in the world and it's situated in... Chengdu, China. It's called the Shadowless Church (无影教堂) and it was designed entirely by Chinese architects (Shanghai Dachuan Architects, 上海大椽建筑设计事务所) as part of a bigger project called the "Sino-French Agricultural Science and Technology Park (中法农业科技园)." The aim was to build a place that reflected "an inner understanding of the French spirit" and, as a Frenchman, I have to say they did an extraordinary job. There is a French philosopher, Paul Ricoeur, who wrote around the concept that we can only truly understand ourselves through "the long detour" of our relationship with others (which those who've followed me for a while know is a concept very close to my heart).
