Boston signed cheap vets, competed for first in the NHL, placed second in the division, won a playoff round and played six more games. Swayman, Lohrei emerge. Poitras returns, Beecher settles in. Great transition year— invaluable playoff experience and cap flexibility. #NHLBruins

@Jazzear145 They did not save a year on his ELC and that’s now how it works. It was burned regardless as soon as he signed it.

@BruinsNetwork Once they realized that even with Hagens, the team was not going to get very far, they had to limit Hagans to under 10 games to save the 1st year on his ELC. This team overachieved big time.

Bruins shifted focus from “bridge” to “compete” just one (!) year after a major firesale when playoffs became an option. Standing pat at the deadline, holding UFAs and opting for low-ceiling guys over developing prospects were one foot in, one foot out decisions IMHO. #NHLBruins
Conor Ryan@ConorRyan_93

Both the Bruins and Celtics shifted a lot of expectations ahead of what was supposed to be either "bridge" or "rebuilding" years. But sure doesn't feel great when both teams completely stumble in their own building in the playoffs. A quiet spring here in Boston.

@BruinsNetwork Imagine being a bruins fan and crying about this lol. For 10+ years the bruins teams were the biggest scumbags in the nhl. Now those scumbags are gone and retired. “It’s not fair” that the Sabres beat them up 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Boston’s toughness felt kind of performative against Buffalo to begin with, but especially as it ends with Zach Benson slew-footing McAvoy in garbage time. Wasn’t the selling point for Zadorov, Kastelic, Jeannot and others to deter such behavior? Didn’t feel that way. #NHLBruins

@BruinsNetwork Well, McAvoy tried to slam Dahlin after a play and Zodorov broke his stick over Dahlin, so you guys tried. You just failed. This time you got out ratted. No one is going to feel sorry for you, Marchand pulled that shit for years.

@BruinsNetwork @_TyAnderson Hahahah. The rookie coach who over exceeded expectations this year still doesn’t know what’s best for the team according to the blue checkmark “fans”

Sturm: “We got a taste. But now we have work to do.” Was asked if team needs more talent or compete. “Can’t compete harder than that.” Seems obvious what he wants and needs.

@j_bertho Where did I even say they integrated prospects this season? I explicitly said that’s where they struggled

BOS made playoffs, developed Minten/Marat, Swayman returned to form, key prospects (Hagens, also Letourneau) improved & held draft capital. Came up short some other areas— integrating prospects, using UFAs as rentals, emphasizing low-ceiling types. Lot of work to do. #NHLBruins

@jeremyfitch98 @_TyAnderson And they absolutely should trade him if he’s going to sit or be odd-man out. Have to think there’s an NHL team or two that will find a way to utilize his skill, size and creativity.

@BruinsNetwork @_TyAnderson To be fair I don’t know if loheri is going to be on the roster next season. Scratched multiple times and has decent trade value on a team that’s starving for a big trade…

@lm110399 What did “intensity” get everyone else exactly? Poor results and same amount of turnovers? Lohrei has his struggles, but he’s got natural abilities most of the other defensemen don’t. You should be able to find a spot for that talent in the lineup when no one else has it IMO.

Hagens yes but why do we have to pretend Lohrei wasn’t awful
Bruins Network@BruinsNetwork

@_TyAnderson That might be true, but also doesn’t help his case when talent (Hagens, even Lohrei) was watching from the bench.

@MikeFromWoburn What did they do at any other point to stop, prevent or deter Benson/anyone else from being rats though? Wasn’t the first example of Benson/Buffalo being ratty, nor was it the only occurance. Can’t use the refs as an excuse when this was the selling point of these guys IMO.

@EBERFRAUD Benson (to his credit) was a rat all series long, as were others. The alleged impact of those tough guys is going out there and making sure their presence is known and that stuff won’t fly. Didn’t seem to make a difference at all.

@Ed_senior I’m very sorry a Czech player got beat on the backcheck and recovery attempt after being put in a bad position by his defenseman. Long live the honorable Ned Stark, though.

@MikeFromWoburn Correct— and Pastrnak had the time, space and ability to make a play which would have neutralized it. Nightmarish sequence all around while you were pressuring with momentum.

@_TyAnderson @MikeFromWoburn About as bad of a play you could imagine from both Hampus and Pastrnak in that scenario. Can’t make that pass; Can’t be in a situation where you’re deep on your own zone, engaged in a 1-on-2, and don’t come up with the puck while Buffalo is streaking into the zone.

@DangleVille_ You can certainly get Zadorov and Lindholm some shifts with McAvoy and switch it up when one of them is visibly struggling to stay afloat. Not like we haven’t seen those pairings before.

@BruinsNetwork Not much else you can do. You know the team and depth pretty well. You move someone and you end up with a par like Clifton and forbort in 23. Sometimes you have to tough it out.

Aspirot has quietly struggled as a top-pair defender for the majority of the series against Buffalo and it’s a problem IMO. Not handling the puck cleanly, being caught out of position and losing 1-on-1 battles. Hard to believe Sturm hasn’t made an adjustment there. #NHLBruins

@JesseCBlair I think he’s proved capable as an NHL’er all year long. He’s probably just a bottom-pair guy which is fine.
