Nike pays Erling Haaland roughly $20 million a year to be photographed with their products. A family-run western store in Dallas just got the same treatment for free. Better than free: Haaland paid them $750 for a taxidermy raccoon hugging a whiskey bottle. The backstory makes it better. Haaland walked into Wild Bill's Western Store during Norway's World Cup run and bought cowboy hats, exotic boots, a longhorn belt buckle, and a shirt reading "Y'all can kiss my Dallas." The owner says Haaland knew nothing about cowboy hats and had to be fitted for his first one. Then Norway's Cinderella run ended in the quarterfinals, and the tournament's breakout star, seven goals, carried the raccoon off the plane in Oslo himself. Caption: "It followed me home." Then he ran an Instagram poll asking fans to name it. The results for a boot shop that's been family-owned since the 1970s: the Whiskey Raccoon is sold out. The Dallas shirt is nearly gone. Their $500 Belligerent Squirrel, a taxidermy squirrel smoking a cigarette and holding Jack Daniel's, is down to low stock. Local shoppers are lining up at a store most of them had walked past for years. Sports brands run entire celebrity seeding departments trying to manufacture exactly this: a global superstar genuinely delighted by a product, on camera, unprompted. Every one of those campaigns reads as an ad, because it is one. Brands spend $20 million a year renting Haaland's image. Wild Bill's sold it to him for $750.

Erling Haaland has returned to Norway, and it looks like he brought home a $750 Whiskey Raccoon from Wild Bill's Western Store in Dallas, Texas. What an authentic piece of American culture.

Earth largest chimpanzee community has fractured and is now engaged in a deadly civil war. For thirty years scientists closely monitored the Ngogo chimpanzee community in Ugandas Kibale National Park. This exceptionally large group of around 200 individuals gained international fame through the Netflix documentary series Chimp Empire. During the first two decades of observation these primates lived in relative harmony grooming foraging and defending their territory together. A new study published in the journal Science however reveals that the once unified community has permanently divided. Beginning around 2015 a combination of key elder male deaths shifts in social hierarchy and a severe disease outbreak led to a complete split into Western and Central factions by 2018. Researchers describe the aftermath as an unprecedented slow motion civil war marked by extreme brutality. Members of the smaller Western group initiated coordinated lethal raids against their former companions in the Central group. Between 2018 and 2024 observers documented at least 24 killings including seven adult males and 17 infants. As one of humanity closest living relatives chimpanzees offer valuable insights into the roots of collective violence. This rare event estimated to occur naturally only once every 500 years illustrates how group dynamics and polarization can fuel lethal conflict even without human style political or ideological motivations. [Sandel, A. A., et al. (2026). Lethal conflict after group fission in wild chimpanzees. Science, 392(6794), 216 DOI: 10.1126/science.adq1234]

These people found a baby goat trapped in a pit. They took him home and cared for him overnite. The next day they tried to find the owner but had no luck. While looking - they found a group of goats with the same white fur. Then this happened.

Several cities in China have installed automated, AI-powered drone stations on utility poles. These "drone-on-a-pole" systems automatically patrol, monitor traffic congestion, report accidents, and issue fines for traffic violations without needing a human pilot.

Beauty of music and nature 🌺🌺
An otter can only sleep peacefully when his beloved cat friend is by his side, but no one expected the story to be this sweet💖✨ Sakura is a short-legged otter who is incredibly mischievous and full of energy. She simply can’t sleep soundly without someone next to her. Worried about Sakura, her caregiver decided to adopt Mochi — a gentle, calm orange cat. At first, everyone was very cautious because otters are carnivores, but a miracle happened: Sakura and Mochi quickly became inseparable best friends. Now, Sakura only falls asleep when she’s tightly hugging Mochi like a stuffed toy. The two of them play, eat, and stick together all day long. Thanks to Mochi, Sakura has become so much calmer and happier ❤️

Did you know we find birdsong relaxing because our brains associate it with safety since birds stop singing when predators are near? On top of this, their songs are particularly pleasant to your ear also because of the striking similarities between theirs and human music.

He had been chosen four times, and four times he had let himself believe it was real — the new house, the new smells, the soft voice promising forever — and four times the car ride had come, and the shelter door, and the goodbye, until he learned the only safe thing was to never believe again, to keep his head down and his heart shut and expect every single human to eventually hand him back. He didn't know what was wrong with him. He had tried so hard, each time. He had loved them. Maybe he loved them too much, or too loudly, or in the wrong way — they always said he "cried too much," "couldn't settle," though all he was ever doing was begging them, in the only voice he had, not to leave him. And then they left him anyway. By the fourth return, he had stopped trying. New people came to his kennel and he turned his face away, because hoping hurt worse than being alone. When the woman clipped a leash on him that Saturday, he didn't even look up. Another walk. Another stranger. Another goodbye waiting at the end of it. But on that walk, something cracked open in him that he couldn't stop. She wasn't in a hurry. She talked to him low and easy. When he glanced up at her, half-expecting nothing, she smiled down at him like he was worth looking at. By the time they turned back toward the building, he was leaning into her leg at every corner, and a terrible, dangerous hope was rising in his chest — the one thing he'd sworn never to feel again. And then he understood, all at once, with the simple total certainty animals have: this one. She's the one. If I let her clip me back into that kennel, I will lose her like I lost all the others, and I cannot survive that again. So when she bent to take the leash off and send him back, he made the only choice he had ever truly been allowed to make. He sat down on her feet, and he refused to move. He pressed his whole body into her legs. He climbed into her lap when she crouched. He pushed his head beneath her chin and begged her, with everything he had left, in the only word his heart knew: please. Please. Not again. Choose me back. And when she finally whispered "okay" into his fur — when he felt her arms close around him and stay — something that had been broken in him for two years quietly, finally, mended. You're not giving me back, he understood, melting into her. I chose right. I finally chose right.

We’ve seen a lot of dogs in bad conditions but I think this lovely boy might be the worst pain I’ve ever seen a dog in. We’d been told about him by a kind man in the community who found him but had no idea how to help beyond giving him water, food and putting a little electric fan on him. He eventually got through to us in sheer desperation. The dog has been there for days apparently and probably hit by some sort of major trauma. He hasn’t eaten or drank his water and he was laying in his own pee and poop. That little alley way was where it was all going to end very soon because I could see from his gums and other signs he was in big big trouble. We had to just go for it and make a stretcher with what we had and push through the pain. It took us 40 minutes to get back to Tina’s hospital and he screamed at every tiny bump on the road. I thought his spine was broken and was super relieved when it wasn’t. I thought he might be so bad that we’d never be posting this video as it might be better to put him out of his misery. He is very sick and has some stuff going on internally but it is pelvis related we believe. He is by no means 100% going to make it as he has so much going on inside him but we have some hope now. The team are in full action mode to try and save him. I called him Bear as he is a big fluffy gentle giant I can tell. I’m not sure how this story ends but it’s already better than he was alone in that alley this morning. He’s having a huge sleep now with lots of pain relief and meds. 🤞🤞🤞

"Recorded yesterday at Maple Grove Shelter. After losing his wife, George had no choice but to bring their dog here. When they met again, the dog pressed into his chest and wouldn't move. George cried openly, telling him how much he'd missed him. The dog stayed. Sometimes an American shelter dog chooses to grieve alongside you instead of letting you face it alone.
