Chronologically, they are far closer to us than you think. And they represent the absolute pinnacle of musical excellence. I raised the bar, that's all.

Vivaldi was literally an ordained priest. There are countless more examples, though. This barely scratches the surface.

It is called “command responsibility,” and it was applied by the Allied countries in the Nuremberg Trials.
