@LFCpat511 @MattBakerSTL @stlCITYsc I don’t see how this club keeps Roman Burki in a DP slot pass this contract. There are plenty of other capable goalkeepers at a much lower price. We should be spending on skill players.

The MLSPA has released an updated Salary Guide as of April 14, 2026 and there are A LOT of fascinating notes for @stlCITYsc fans:
- CITY's player spend is $18.8m - good for 18th among MLS teams. It dropped 5 spots comparatively from 2025, despite a rising salary spend of ~$700k
- Roman Bürki's new salary is $2.75m guaranteed, an increase of over $1m over last season.. The biggest thing we were looking forward to was how much his new contract increased from last year and this was extreme.
- Bürki is not only the highest paid CITY player, but he's the highest paid GK in all of MLS. Matt Turner, the next highest paid makes $1.94m guaranteed. Bürki is on a 2 year contract w/an option and now we now he's a DP who can't be bought down even after this year.
- Sergio Córdova, a DP for bookkeeping reasons & on loan from Young Boys through June, has a $1.21m salary. The presumption is that if his option is picked up, he won't count as a DP and this salary would put him firmly in the TAM player level.
- Chris Durkin, at $668,500, received a $148k compensation bump w/his new contract over last season while Simon Becher at $444,375, received a $205k increase.
- Other new signings: Polvara ($436k), Wallem ($657k), MacNaughton ($219k), Mbacke ($496k) and Santos ($226k).
- And finally - an alignment note: right now, 6 of our top 8 paid players are not locked and loaded every match starters (much less producing as such right now) #AllForCITY

@MattBakerSTL @StLouligans @stlCITYsc So we are spending nearly $4 million on two DP’s who are not performing anywhere like DPs. And we have a third DP slot if we choose that model that is vacant? It is no wonder we are where we are in the standings.

@Breaking911 You are watching her ultimate dream realized in one moment. This is brilliant.

@MattBakerSTL @stlCITYsc Totland earned his spot in the XI. Joyner should at minimum be a sub at 60-70. I wouldn’t mind seeing McSorley start over Becher, but that’s to drastic to expect from Damet.
Sang bin is invisible. Fallou seems like a wasted signing at this point.
English

Here’s the scenario @stlCITYsc fans. Everyone’s available minus Célio. I’m going to list a possible XI w/subs and let’s see who Damet leaves off the roster entirely:
Bürki
Polvara, Baumgartl, MacNaughton
Totland, Durkin, Edelman, Wallem
Hartel, Löwen
Córdova
Bench: Lundt (must roster), Orozco, Mbacke, Fallou, Joyner, Santos, Perez, Ostràk, Teuchert, Sangbin, McSorley, Becher
3 of these bench players will be left off the matchday roster entirely. My guess from watching Damet’s selections so far: Fallou, Ostràk and Sangbin.
How does everyone think it shakes out?#AllForCITY

@MattBakerSTL Appreciate the response. I’m not necessarily calling for RB to be benched (unless it’s a match or two to make a statement), but it’s definitely disappointing to see him underperform after signing a big contract and taking up a DP slot.
English

His g+ and underlying PSxGA type numbers have dropped off but I don't think there's a single reason to think it's worth entertaining whether Bürki starts vs Lundt... If you get into whether he's been considerably better you're probably going to enter salary into the equation.
Personally, I'd take 2026 Bürki over any year of Lundt 10/10 times. I haven't seen anything from Bürki that's ever made me think we'd be better off w/Lundt, and that's my baseline barometer.
But I will acknowledge that part of that is being almost impossible to adequately compare the 2 because we just haven't seen Lundt play this year. Don't know his growth/regression from previous seasons... he's an unknown so most of the convo boils down to whether you've been happy enough w/Bürki to see him start over an avg baseline GK.
English

There’s a reason my 3 no brainer starters on this roster are Bürki, Hartel and Löwen. My lord has Löwen changed this game.
And Mykhi. HE DESERVES MINUTES. #AllForCITY
Deutsch

@MattBakerSTL So Fallou Fall was wasted money, Cordova was a failed rental, and were still on the Klauss $$ trusting there’s a big summer window splash. Do you trust Cory with the big summer move we all expect?
English

Waiting for that day where Damet finally pulls the trigger and makes more than a R10 or injury necessitated change.
The sample size has been enough to see what’s working and what’s not. We’re entering the 2nd quarter of the season. Time to tinker. #AllForCITY

Our Consensus Projected @stlCITYsc Starting XI taking on @SJEarthquakes. Damet isn’t known yet for changing his XI but we firmly believe it’s time for at least one change. We have 2 in ours. Tots and Córdova. We know what Totland is capable of, but Córdova starting w/o Becher hasn’t been seen in league play yet. We want to see it. #AllForCITY

@alti90 @DomClare What leads you to that conclusion? A journalist of EITHER sex cannot sleep with someone they cover. That’s objectively problematic. Coaches can sleep with whomever they want (because shitty humans can coach football). But a football leak would be football-related misconduct.
English

@bryanpolcyn @DomClare Interesting phrasing, sounds like you put it more on Russini. Both cheated on their spouses, both potentially got information from each other. Russini resigned so she wouldn't get fired, Vrabel has his job- for now.
English

@DomClare @StevenHeathen You're such a Vrab stan. "It's their job to be ethical." LOL. It's his job not to leak information that could hurt the team just to get laid.
English

@StevenHeathen That’s not his job. Every coach gives reporters information. It’s their job to be ethical on what they publish.

@MattBakerSTL @stlCITYsc Lowen makes every other player better. I wonder if his presence might actually help Becher stay high and focus on being a 9, ill-suited as he may be.
English

There are a lot of discussions around @stlCITYsc right now, who have 1 win in 8 games about how to turn things around in the attacking third. But right now, I think the biggest excitement and curiosity revolve around Edu Löwen. As the topic shifts firmly to on-field, Damet's offered a lot of hints around Löwen:
Tuesday, Damet said everyone training was at least 45 min fit, including Löwen. Damet also said Löwen was "full go". However, Damet also talked about how to integrate him into the plan for the weekend.
When healthy, Löwen is 1 of maybe 3 total players who are 100% must starts every match, along w/Hartel & Bürki. That's it. And after hearing Damet talk, unless something changes in the next few days, I think the expectation this weekend has to be that Löwen starts. Period, end of story.
And from Damet's recent comments and Löwen's appearance last weekend, it's likely to be alongside Hartel in the attacking midfield. Lots of debate around Löwen's best position & how to best help CITY... but it's inarguable that our attack has been problematic. It's arguable though that Löwen best helps the team at the R10 vs alongside either Edelman or Durkin, as he would conceivably offer another CM into the attack as a threat.
A lot to consider but if we're believing what we're hearing... Löwen should start this weekend. #AllForCITY

@allen2446 @NBCNews She quit (instead of facing an internal investigation). Journalists can’t sleep with the people they cover - it’s a conflict of interest. Their product (reporting) is tainted if they do. Football coaches just have to win games. Who they have sex with doesn’t impact the product.
