@definitesalad@BurghB17 Corbin just went into a massive slump. His ops has been closer to 1.000 all season until his 8-63 slump he has going on right now. His last 20 games he has a 480 ops
How is Corbin Carrol in the all star game over Bryan Reynolds? Reynolds has a higher average, more homers, more RBIs, higher ops, and somehow only 3 less stolen bases than the speedy Carrol. I have no clue how mlb lets this happen.
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 So yes you're correct spin rate doesn't exclusively cause swing and miss it allows us to see if a pitch has swing and miss potential to an extent of course
@BryceStant61389@LT1650 Spin rate doesn’t exclusively equal more swing and miss. VAA, Release height, spin efficiency, spin rate alone doesn’t equate to swing and miss.
Aka tilted, down hill, tight breaking balls, heater with ride, little guy pitches at the top, breaking ball that grabs.
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 Correct but if you combine a lot of those together they create elite swing and miss stats. Think Bryan woos fastball due to his low release height and high spin. Analytics allows to see how the pitch moves and either throw it more or less. King and ohtanis efficient high spin SW
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 Jd martinez released by Houston so he goes and buys into the launch angle pulled air percentage movement (this is another stat I'm enamored with) and it completely changes his career. Max muncy leaves Oakland starts looking into his quality of contact and LA and he's good now
@BryceStant61389@LT1650 So he started swinging at strikes, and his hard hit percentage went up because of a entire department of guys said hey your chasing too much and you aren’t barreling things. Pretty simple concept in my eyes @LT1650
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 Sure when you simplify it to its barebones thats how it is. But we all play or have played baseball here. You can FEEL like your doing something even tho you actually aren't doing that thing. Sometimes you need outside sources to tell you. There's other examples of people benefit
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 What do you mean by organizations getting older? And idk the data often correlates pretty well spin rate is supposed to miss more bats. Also for what it's worth I hate that proposal
@BryceStant61389@LT1650 Great thought with that being said Jordan Walker would in return not be relevant to MLB at this time with the proposal set forth. He would be required to play college till 21, play 1st full year at 22. Way more to due with organizations getting older. Than spin rate.
@AbrahamEsparza@LT1650@Jjeanes24 Not if Friedman didn't want him there anymore. 5 years and his best season was a non competitive nlcs loss. That's very bad for the dodgers
@BryceStant61389@LT1650@Jjeanes24 Then he would have stayed in LA when Friedman came in and went all analytics. He only stayed for one year after Friedman came in as GM. Roberts got to benefit from it.
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 Jordan Walker is a PHENOMENAL example. Last year he hit 215 before being sent down. But was 91st in avg exit velo, 87th in hard hit rate, 99th in bat speed. This year he focused on cutting down his chase rate which caused all the strikeouts and fixed his LA sweet spot % and look
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 This can cause a lower batting average so by raising the launch angle it can create more hits or if you're looking for more pop steepen the launch angle. Analytics don't exactly make players better, but rather allows them more opps if unlucky. Or maximizes their potential
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 This doesn't make sense schwarber is not a proto leadoff hitter older people like. And look at the Phillies pen it's full of high spin hard throwing guys. And their entire pitching staff is analytic darlings. Wheeler high velo and spin. Sanchez seam shifted wake mix etc
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 Or someone with a good chase rate or spin rate show they have good potential and maybe need to change their sequencing or how often they throw a pitch. See the Milwaukee Brewers for this. Hitting wise things like hard hit rate, barrel rate, walk rate, avg exit velo, and LA
@Jjeanes24@LT1650 So neither of your replies make sense but I will try my best to respond. For pitchers analytics can be used a lot. You can look at things like chase rate, spin rate, xera, fip, avg exit velo. These things can show that someone who has had a bad year could just be unlucky by xera.
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 And just to add to that this was in 2010 where we didn't have half the stats we used to for analytics. Now he manages one of the most analytically driven teams in baseball. They hit a guy who strikes out alot leadoff cause he walks and hits bombs. Peak analytics
@BryceStant61389@Jjeanes24 I do not and I think he uses data, but not what you think for. Ask me how I know. Cuz I have FRIENDS who played for him and say other wise. He’s actually spoke out against to much info and complicating swings, approach etc. I guess I’m just a fool.
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 So according to your friends don mattingly didn't use analytics at all never once as a hitting coach? I never said he overhauled everything he teaches about hitting through analytics as even I think there's positives to having played the game as a coach.
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 No but he makes decisions based off it time to time. You don't think he infiltrated that into his hitting coach days around 2010. Barry is a staunch traditionalist and it showed when he was a hitting coach in 16.
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 Also Don is a known advocator of analytics. Direct quotes such as "Analytics have been coming into the game for a long time. You're a fool if you're not trying to get better. If you're not using them as a part of your decision-making process, you're a fool." Whereas bonds doesnt
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 Really, Really bad comeback considering mattingly was a hitting coach from 2004-2006. And again from 08-10lad which as we know completely different eras from 2016. Also the Yankees in 05 were arguably the most STACKED OFFENSE in the league. And the dodgers were slightly above avg
@LVSLennyy@AustinVogl@BRWalkoff DONT WORRY THE MARLINS IN 2016 were fourth in the league in Batting average. Don't forget 2nd to last in homeruns and 4th to last in runs scored. Please ask me who their hitting coach was.
@LT1650@Jjeanes24 The greatest hitter in history. Barry bonds was the Marlins hitting coach in 2016. That year they were second to last in homeruns and second to last in runs scored. But don't worry fourth in batting average
@Jjeanes24 Need more Old Heads. Guys that know baseball and how to teach it. Get rid of the iPads. Use them sparingly. There are no push against the narrative guys just a bunch of yes men. Can’t be afraid. The game could be so much better. It will get there No Fear!!!
