Certain Indians compare India with European, American and East Asian countries and complain that their infrastructure and public facilities are far better than ours.
But when the same modern systems and privileges are made accessible to us in India, we misuse them instead of respecting them.
A perfect example is the National Highways Authority of India's barrier less Multi Lane Free Flow tolling system introduced on the UER II stretch at the Mundka Bakkarwala toll plaza in Delhi.
The AI powered toll network relies on a combination of overhead Automatic Number Plate Recognition, ANPR, cameras and RFID readers. As a car passes underneath at highway speeds without stopping, the cameras capture the number plate, match it to a FASTag-linked wallet, and deduct the toll.
No need for a four wheeler to stop at a barrier, get its toll tax deducted and then resume again.
So what did citizens of India do when such a technology became available to them which reduced their travel time.
They covered their car number plates by mud, paper, tape, or plastic to cover digits on the number plate.
They used mechanical plate flipping devices to hide the plate.
Some even drove without a FASTag and modified the registration details to avoid e-challans.
Now, when this facility will be stopped by the GOI, around 50% of the citizens will again start comparing backward undeveloped India with progressive Japan and South Korea.
Indians must themselves learn to be deserving of technological advances and act responsibly with civic sense.
