Russia’s aerial bombs remain a major challenge for us. Within a month, we are talking about thousands, not even hundreds. Their jets launch glide bombs both from Russian territory and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory at ranges exceeding 100 kilometers. We have never had enough air defense assets to intercept such bombs. Using these bombs, the Russians wreak destruction across our border communities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Kharkiv, Sumy, and others. Many cities and villages have been razed to the ground by aerial bombs. Therefore, Gripens with matching weaponry – particularly Meteor missiles that destroy targets at distances exceeding 200 kilometers – will help us push Russian jets away so that they can’t use glide bombs en masse anymore. President Zelenskyj sa till ukrainsk TV i Uppsala även att han fått med Sverige som viktigt partnerland i att utveckla anti-ballistiskt luftvärn (ungefär som Patriot-system). 🇺🇦🇸🇪Sverige är det första partnerlandet och ytterligare ett par länder till behövs för att sen kunna utveckla ett eruopeiskt anti-ballistiskt luftvärnssystem. Zelenskyj tror att fler länder ansluter till detta i sommar och sen sätter arbetet igång.

No one knows more about the demands of war than Ukraine. We are immensely proud they have chosen the Swedish Gripen fighter.

I am grateful to the people and government of Sweden, and personally to @SwedishPM Ulf Kristersson, for supporting Ukraine, for their principled stance, and for their readiness to bring a just peace closer through real steps. We continue and expand our cooperation.

This Gripen news is absolutely incredible. Sweden's support has been outstanding. If the US had Swedish (indeed the same applies across the Nordics and Baltics) leadership, russia would've been crushed years ago. That day can't come soon enough.
