Here’s a key one: After the Cold War, the United States didn’t just scale back - it dramatically reduced its presence in Greenland, cutting troop levels at Thule Air Base from around 10,000 personnel to just a few hundred. Along the way, responsibility was quietly shifted to Denmark. We didn’t demand it, but we took it on, and we stayed. We continued to operate within the framework of the 1951 defense agreement, which was a mutual treaty, not a unilateral duty. We welcome America’s renewed attention in the region.
