Your review and interview caught me off guard, Sarp. Lots of hard stuff bubbling up from the past reading this. I haven’t yet written the full story of what we went through with my adopted son’s incarceration but you captured the emotional and moral prison I lived in during those years he was accused, on trial, imprisoned. My God, stories like this are so important because they force us to imagine ourselves in our worst moral dilemma— when the one we love has done the unthinkable. And we always said “I’ll always love you no matter what” and now here we are in a wilderness of “no matter what’s” and we don’t know who we are anymore.
