There's middle ground in this dichotomy, of course. There's various uses for all sorts of gear. And urban guys can have a rural mindset. But preparedness isn't a COD fantasy. The rural preparedness mindset is all about utility and being a legitimate asset to your friends & family

while i do wish the film was a little more period accurate, i do think its worth noting that homer didnt come up with the odyssey, it was a preexisting myth that has likely gone through countless changes since its creation. its a lil different than adapting a novel
