Tad early, but preview of Astrid. For years people asked what an OS even means for AI. Not another wrapper. Not a hosted cloud you have to trust. An actual system the AI runs, owns, and improves. OpenClaw and Hermes are distros. Good ones. But they assume a kernel exists. It didn't. Astrid is that kernel. Here's the real insight nobody is talking about: the LLM can build its own harness on the fly. Capsules own exactly one piece of the agent harness, like Nix packages. The AI can write new ones, improve existing ones, extend itself. The harness is not a cage handed to it by a developer. The harness is something the AI participates in building and evolving. That's what sovereign AI actually means. Not just "your data stays local." The agent owns its own operating environment and can improve it. The model is just a provider. Anthropic, local, whatever. Plug it in, swap it out. Astrid doesn't care. Build your own runtime on top. Build your own UI. Ship a distro. Share components. The whole thing is designed to be taken apart, rebuilt, and extended by anyone, including the AI itself. CLI is rough, ecosystem is thin, providers are external for now. This is the foundation pass. But it runs today and the architecture is real. No cloud. No vendor. No one between you and the stack. Unikernel deployment is planned, so its fully standalone. Expect dragons. Treat it like Linux in the early 90s. brew tap unicity-astrid/tap brew install astrid github.com/unicity-astrid…
