@TheShiftologist @StockTalks21 Coach does something egregiously wrong, but because the kids made a cool play, we will just ignore it. Yup, can’t see that ever blowing up in our faces.

@StockTalks21 Because the ref had an actual spine and didn’t want to steal a moment the Kid’s on the court earned. Is Hurley wrong for this? Absolutely. Is the ref incredible for not destroying the moment? Absolutely.

Guys! I need help - Harper from Greenfield Ohio got a one our footballs a couple years ago when we launched the company and it has popped recently. Harper made me a wallet out of the remains of the football and I want to send a new one, but the return address was unreadable. The part of the return address that I did see doesn’t match up with any address in our system so I need the parents name that ordered it. Maybe Twitter can help by doing its thing? RT’s help and if you have any info on who this could be would be much appreciated.

@Vinny Congrats! I accidentally reset on attempt 36 and 1064 before checking to see if it was shiny. Looking for help convincing myself neither of those were shiny and to continue this journey 😅😅

That's interesting, I like that page, thanks for the link. But I still think first and third with no outs, your goal is a crooked number, and a double play basically eliminates that chance. Which is why the defense plays for the double play instead of playing for the out at home. A GIDP in that situation is more of a win for the defense than for the offense.

Random thought of the day. It doesn’t sit right with me that you don’t get an RBI if the runner scores from 3rd on a double play with no outs. You still batted them in.

But if you and 99 of your friends each invested $1,000 and you returned $10 while the average was $17.80 and some people made as much as $70, you wouldn't necessarily be happy with your $10 just because six people didn't make anything. You might be glad you didn't make $0, but you'd look at the 85 people who made more than you and think, "Man, I wish I had done what they did."

@tadstone @brownsonjacob2 But it absolutely is mythical until it crosses the plate! Otherwise the scoreboard would have to show 1.76 runs for a team as soon as they have runners on first and third with 0 outs. Real data in the current game being played is what actually happens. Not what is expected to.

@Buttafingazz_ @brownsonjacob2 Expected runs aren't mythical. They're based on real data and are predictive of how an inning/situation is going to go. Of course you need to convert, but turning a situation where past teams scored 1.76 runs into 1.09 runs is suboptimal.

@tadstone @brownsonjacob2 If you can’t understand that it doesn’t matter how many good positions you get yourself into in a game, you still need to capitalize and score the runs, I don’t know how to help you. Runs scored > expected runs. “Dude look how many runs we should have scored! We’re the best!”

@JustCubsNews @snidog @SateIIiteFlight @WillyDiBa7 @brownsonjacob2 Again, that’s still assuming Team A does nothing every single inning with 2 outs and no one on AND that Team B undoubtedly scores. The phrase is still “expected runs”. Doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed. I’ll take 9 guaranteed runs plus whatever my team does with 2 outs any day.

@snidog @SateIIiteFlight @WillyDiBa7 @brownsonjacob2 That’s assuming Team B gets that/those run(s) in some other way, and Team A never does anything with 2 outs. There is no guarantee that if Team B avoids a GIDP that they score consistently some other way. Strikeouts, pop ups, line outs, clutch pitching, these things still happen.

@SateIIiteFlight @Buttafingazz_ @WillyDiBa7 @brownsonjacob2 That’s why I didn’t use the word guarantee. But if two teams both start every inning with runners on first and third and no outs and Team A drives in a run with a double play every time while Team B doesn’t, Team B will win pretty much every game.

@snidog @WillyDiBa7 @brownsonjacob2 True, but how do we get to 1.78 expected runs? It means that sometimes teams score 3, 4, maybe 5 runs that inning. But it also means that sometimes teams haven’t scored. I’m not saying a GIDP is the ideal outcome, but it scores a run. That’s still 1 real run, not a hopeful run.

@Buttafingazz_ @WillyDiBa7 @brownsonjacob2 Expected runs aren’t purely theoretical, though. They’re based on the real runs that have scored in all the real baseball games. Which is why teams would always prefer to do the thing that is more likely to lead to more runs, and that thing is NOT hitting into a double play.

@brownsonjacob2 With runners at the corners and no outs, you have an expected runs in the inning of 1.76. If you get the run across but make a double play, you're essentially settling for that single run. You cost the team .76 expected runs.
