Some observations from pickleball courts -
• @claudeai has made everyone a programmer. Non-techies can FINALLY build stuff they could never build.
• Building is easy. Selling is hard. Most people don’t know how to market their products.
• There’s a euphoria around AI and people are scared for their jobs at the same time. Everyone has an AI side project.
• Rents are through the roof due to AI boom in SF. Apartments are going off the market in minutes.
• The idea of ‘escaping permanent underclass’ is getting unwarranted attention.
• Too many investors are on pickleball courts. Scouring for new ideas and founders.
• Obviously dating is happening too. And hiring!
• X and real world are intertwined. Ideas spread on X and within a day, IRL conversations change on courts.
• Pivoting is happening every week at some startups . Big labs release a model and hundreds of startups become obsolete in a day. Software moats are disappearing.
• The demand of a GTM guru (who’s a branding, design, product and marketing genius - all in one) is through the roof.
• Rounds are happening at insane valuations. The valuations are doubling in a week!
• Post-abundance world, UBI, purpose of humans, religion, family, values and benevolence of intelligent machines have become a hot topic of discussion.
• Everyone and their aunt is an angel investor now! I know two founders who closed a seed round on pickleball courts last week.
• People are living in future, riding in a Waymo, drinking matcha and ditching tennis. Pickleball and AI have taken over SF like Karl the fog 🌁
