What you think doesn't matter. Because the reality is that hurricane strikes in Florida have decreased significantly since 1851. • 12 hurricanes struck Florida in the 1870s (the most in a decade on record) • ZERO hurricanes made landfall last year. • ZERO made landfall between Hurricanes Wilma on October 24, 2005, and Hermine on September 2, 2016, the longest lull on record in Florida. • Of the top 20 most intense hurricanes to landfall in Florida, 16 of them occurred more than 20 years ago, 12 of which were either in or before 1960.

@ChrisMartzWX I i think the amount of hurricanes we're having in florida every year versus the amount we used to have is pretty good proof of climate change.

@ChrisMartzWX #1 is true, but you regularly claim that it isn’t. Going forward please stop saying dumb things.

Two things can be true: 1⃣ Mankind contributes to global warming, which can lead to climate change. 2⃣ Climate change is not an existential threat to life on Earth that requires Big Government and a radical change to energy policies. There is a lane for that position, which is the lane that I am in, and is rooted in actual scientific evidence. Just because you agree with point #1 does not mean we need radical far-left policies. And, just because you may agree with point #2 instead does not mean that our industiralized economies do not have some impact. But the fact is that the range of natural variability is so large that being able to really detect an anthropogenic impact outside of land use change (e.g., urbanization) is difficult to do without computer models that are artificially tuned to back out the forcings, which are not real observational evidence. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

@whataboutrandom @PeterDClack If energy in = energy out then temperature remains constant. The temperature is not constant so energy in > energy out. This is because with more greenhouse gasses there is more energy being retained. This will continue as long as the amount of greenhouse gasses increases.

@whataboutrandom @PeterDClack Not entirely. The Earth does store energy that comes in (Land, Atmosphere and Oceans). This is why the coldest day of the year is usually in January instead of December. However the fact that energy is stored doesn’t mean that there will be a change in temperature.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has frequently said the Earth is 'out of balance' due to heat trapped in the atmosphere. This ignores basic thermodynamics. Guterres says the planet is experiencing an era of 'global boiling'. This is not possible. The atmosphere cannot act as a permanent heat vault. It's a low-density medium with negligible mass and it sheds thermal energy to space every night. The true thermal engine of the planet is the ocean - a 1.3 billion cubic km body of water with 1,000 times the heat capacity of the air. On a clear night, that energy escapes into the vacuum of space at the speed of light. Every molecule in the air radiates infrared energy and without the sun’s shortwave input at night, the atmosphere sheds heat upward. The residence time of atmospheric heat is fleeting. We see this every day. Once the sun sets, air temperatures can drop 10°C to 20°C in hours. The atmosphere has almost no memory of heat. If the sun turned off, the air would lose its warmth in weeks, but the oceans would take millennia. Wind and convection further speed this up, carrying warm air to higher altitudes where the atmospheric blanket is thinnest. This makes it even easier to radiate away. To focus on heat 'trapped' in the air is a fundamental error in scale. #Thermodynamics or #ClimateNuance

These No Kings protesters in Wisconsin are odd. When Governor Evers seized the power of the purse from the legislature and raised property taxes for 400 years, they cheered. When the supreme court eviscerated the separation of powers, saying that Evers could operate like a king without legislative oversight of regulations they cheered. Whenever Francesca Hong proposes top down authoritarian policies they cheer. They seem to desperately want a king. They just want their king to stick it to everyone else.

A recent study examined Greenland surface temperatures from 2000 to 2019 using MODIS satellite data. It shows no overall warming. The island-wide trend was actually slightly negative. Most of Greenland showed stable temperature patterns - no statistically significant change. The study also notes that 2012's record low ice mass, which has since recovered, was not driven by temperature but rather shifts to ocean patterns and atmospheric circulation. Claims of relentless Greenland warming are unfounded.
