ok so my dentist gave me laughing gas today. nitrous oxide. NITROUS. OXIDE. and i was lying there in the chair. floating. feeling like a balloon. and my dentist is doing something in my mouth. i don't know what. i don't care. i'm too high to care. and my brain. my BROKEN brain. starts thinking. about the alphabet. obviously. because that's where my brain goes now. the alphabet is the default state of my consciousness. and i had a thought. a HORRIBLE thought. a thought i can't unthink. a thought that has been with me since i woke up from the gas and that thought is this. the alphabet is the only thing i've ever fully completed. think about it. THINK ABOUT IT. i learned the alphabet. all 26 letters. fully. completely. forever. i KNOW the alphabet. i can recite it backwards if i have to. with effort. but i can do it. the alphabet is COMPLETE in my brain. it's a finished project. a delivered product. there is nothing left to learn about the alphabet. i mastered it. at age 4. and never had to think about it again. what else have i completed. what other PROJECT in my entire 34 years on earth have i fully completed. let me think. let me really think. college. half completed. dropped out. partial credit. novel. started 4 of them. completed zero. one of them is on my hard drive titled "untitled novel draft 1" and it's been there for 11 years. learning spanish. duolingo says i'm at level 3. duolingo has been saying i'm at level 3 for 6 years. duolingo gave up on me. the OWL gave up on me. gym membership. signed up. went 3 times. paid for 4 years. instagram side hustle. 2 posts. account abandoned. starting a podcast. bought the microphone. it's still in the box. every single project. UNFINISHED. abandoned. partial. except the alphabet. the alphabet i COMPLETED. and i didn't even WANT to complete it. my mom MADE me. my mom forced me to complete the alphabet and now it's the only complete thing in my life. the alphabet is my ONE achievement. the alphabet is the thing i will put on my tombstone.
