@sophiegrenham @philipnolan1 @tomdoorley Children are a huge undertaking. No return policy: incredibly expensive: no guarantee they won’t be A-holes: sulk: spend lives on phone: can’t drive themselves to school: take up space: can be fat, lazy, stupid, or all at same time: boring and attention-seeking so why bother.

I'm delighted that people who don't want to have children don't have children. Good for them. But I don't know why the feel they have to keep on justifying their decision. Why not just get on with their child-free lives?
The Times and The Sunday Times@thetimes
There can be a huge chasm between friends who are parents and those who aren’t. The author of Ordinary Human Failings, Megan Nolan, who has chosen to be child-free, writes about the differences that should be celebrated ⬇️ #Echobox=1713104260" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.co.uk/article/megan-…

@sophiegrenham @philipnolan1 @tomdoorley I imagine it is because the Japanese are a very sophisticated people and children are gauche accessories.
English

@sophiegrenham @philipnolan1 @tomdoorley I see in Japan the birth-rate is falling! Why am I singing I think I’m turning Japanese I think I’m ….

@ByDavidSlattery @philipnolan1 @tomdoorley In the same way that I respect people's decisions to have children, I hope they respect mine to not. You wouldn't believe how affronted people look, or maybe I'm just imagining it. I also have friends who think I hate kids just because I take issue when they're badly behaved.
English

@sophiegrenham @philipnolan1 @tomdoorley We don’t have children and have never been interrogated about it, which I have sometimes found odd because people are so nosy. Indeed, boring advertising ones life choices.
English

@philipnolan1 @tomdoorley Me too! I hate the assumption that just because I'm a woman at a certain age that I have children or plan to have them ("Good schools in your neighbourhood"). I don't have them by choice and I thought that was more socially acceptable now...

@drsjcostello Only this week I was wondering if people talk more than they used to. Everyone seems to have an opinion they must share.
English

@drsjcostello Excellent. This reminds me of reading somewhere ages ago about how St Augustine had to teach all the pagans what a sin was.

@joancooke5 I have never met an angry happy person. While not all unhappy people are angry, social media have provided convenient platforms for the free expression of misery manifesting itself usually as bigotry. It is a pity this has happened but seems somehow inevitable.
English

There is such a surfeit of anger visible and audible here much of the time. It makes you wonder if, post Covid, we somehow unrealistically, felt entitled to some Utopian life that we thought we had but never existed.

@dineen20dineen Where have you been living? I get a scam call from Amazon at least once a day. You are supposed to hand over your bank details so that they can extract all your money from your account.
English

@dineen20dineen I met Nicholas Parsons. A very sound man.
English

@sophiegrenham I always say “supper” but am regularly told it is “dinner” in Ireland but everyone says “the last supper” by Leonardo and never the “the last dinner.” Mystifying.
English

@dineen20dineen I was extraordinary on the part of the State to induce in teenage me a raging hatred for Peig. I literally danced on her grave when I finally got down to Kerry.
English

Peig Sayers you will either love it or hate it but do it bring back memories from your school days #peigsayers

English

@MargaretOGorm12 Well, I feel they need someone to talk to. I am like a Samaratins for scammers.

@ByDavidSlattery Staying one step ahead of the scammers is always good
