Rare trading tip since people are asking for shorting advice on momentum assets: - Isolate your positions into separate accounts, or isolated margin. You can theoretically have infinite loss shorting so you never want to cross your entire portfolio balance. - DCA into your position and think of it as an inverse investment. This untethers you from a specific price level, and actually makes you root for the asset going up so you can average up at better prices. - Identify metrics or signals that would make you invalidate your position. Are there any fundamental changes that can occur to invalidate your shorts? Have unlock schedules changed? Has the overall market changed (ex. BTC hitting new highs) and general market beta may give you an opportunity to short higher? Be honest and keep yourself accountable. - Set limit closes in the book, you're hunting for exits on a day like 10/10 during a flash crash. You could get extremely unlucky and be AFK when it happened. Your exchange may be borderline unusable during market crashes. Set orders ahead of time under key support levels anticipating a wick. - Have clearly defined risk limits. Are you tethering to a notional loss? Is liquidation your stoploss? Do you have sufficient collateral on the sidelines to add to your position? It's important to set aside more collateral than you think you need, as things typically trade higher than you would ever expect. Advanced: - If shorting TradFi stocks buy cheap far OTM options so you can average up your short if the asset goes much higher than you expect. Great way to ensure you have sufficient collateral at the top, and are unemotional about price directionality. - Have a shopping list of assets you'd want to buy when you cover your shorts. All crypto assets are heavily correlated due to cross collateralization, liquidation cascades and Market Making safeguards. If the market is bearish enough for you to cover your shorts you should realistically be buying assets that are trading below their fair market value.

@Crypto_Chase You're a real one for this! Keep it coming! Transparency and accountability is always appreciated over cryptic hints and plausible deniability. Also getting a glimpse into your evolving thought processes is actually very valuable, even when-, or maybe especially if you flip-flop.

Most on here are too concerned with looking wrong. They’ll bullpost, but won’t tell you the actual position.. and if they are a step up and tell you the actual position, then they won’t inform you if it stops out, they’ll just cop out to “spot still running” or some dog shit like that. My feed looks like “overtrading” compared to most who keep every execution a secret. Reality is I longed 121.4K with a thesis of an aggressive bullish liquidity grab then new highs. I had 1R worth of risk on this trade. It completely deviated expectations, I closed half at 122K~ (a little profit to offset future loss since it wasn’t performing as I expected so thinking it’s gonna hit SL) then after it decisively closes below 121K level, I closed rest for 0.15R total loss. All these updates are likely overwhelming when you’re used to random bullposts, bearposts, and no actual positional updates, but I try to keep it real. Now after a very minor loss, we reclaimed and I’m back in, because perhaps my level was simply deviated. Last chance. So anyways, before hating and saying shit like “overtrading”, maybe just see that I say the hard parts out loud. The level failed, of course I closed. Now the level reclaimed, I give it one last try.
