Thanks to my senator, @ClarenceLamMD, for his support for my campaign for re-election, and his years of friendship. In the term ahead, we'll continue to put our experience, proven records of results, and progressive values to work for the people of Howard County and Maryland.
Clarence Lam@ClarenceLamMD

HoCo's Register of Wills @ByronMacfarlane has been doing a great job--addressing a lot of shortcomings when he arrived in the office and managing it well over the last 16 years. Proud to be able to support him in his well-deserved reelection (and you should too when you go vote!)

We abolished our court in Howard County in 2022. The difference between 3 elected judges - req'd to be 18 years old & that's it - and an experienced, vetted, trained Circuit Court Judge has been night and day. Every Marylander deserves the kind of access to justice we have here.

Commentary: In all but three counties, probate matters are still heard by a panel of three elected judges, most of whom are not lawyers by training. Those counties moved away from this ancient system, and it is time for the rest of the state to join them. thedailyrecord.com/2025/11/21/its…

Maryland is the only state with 3-judge panels that hear probate cases. This fraught system guarantees interpersonal conflict, which can distort judicial outcomes for people in grief. What's happened here is nothing new, not unique to one county, and will continue without reform.

Congratulations to Esen Paradiso for her design of Howard County's new flag! Thank you to everyone who submitted designs and to the efforts of the commission over the last year in reviewing the submissions.

Ken Martin is channeling the spirit of another great Minnesotan, Paul Wellstone, who once said: "I don't represent the big oil companies, the big pharmaceutical companies - they already have great representation in Washington. It's the rest of the people that need it."

Democrats, thank you for putting your trust in me. It's the honor of my life to serve as your next DNC Chair. Now we’re going to pull ourselves together, work as one, and fight for the American people.

Maryland’s registers of wills and their allies in the legislature are worried that a part of Gov. Wes Moore’s tax reform proposal will strip them of their main revenue source.

There's some good here, but the elimination of the inheritance tax is bad for Maryland. Almost no one pays it, most don't even live in Maryland, and it'll cost over $110 million. My fellow Registers of Wills and I - who collect this tax - will have more to say in the days ahead.
Pamela Wood@pwoodreporter

Maryland @GovWesMoore says he won't balance the budget "on the backs of working-class families." Instead, he's proposing increases on income greater than $500K. A first look at his proposal here from me, @WintrodeBrenda & @MaddiONeill: thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-power…

He was one of a kind. Always smiling, always there to help, always there for his family and friends. He bravely voted for marriage equality, drawing the ire of many voters in his district, but being true to his heart. I offer my heartfelt thanks and prayers. RIP my friend.

Sad news: Former Del. James E. Malone Jr. (D-Baltimore and Howard) died this afternoon. He was 67. Malone was a 19-year veteran of the House of Delegates and at the time of departure was vice chair of the House Environmental Matters Committee.

I took on this fight for the people of Howard County and Maryland, to ease their burden, and to prove that government can work for the average citizen. And I renew my gratitude to everyone who played a role in making this reform a reality. 5/5 #PromisesMakePromisesKept

Even more damning, in its last two years, the Orphans' Court had its decisions appealed every six weeks. The Circuit Court? Just once in two years. 4/5

It's been two years since reform came to our probate court in Howard County. We continue to monitor important metrics that translate into real results for families going through the hardest time of their lives. 1/5 🧵
