One of only two guests to make a repeat appearance on my podcast, @byronreese is a scientist who asks why questions and peppers his research with Ancient Greek and Roman wisdom and contemporary cultural references. The big ideas in his latest book #WeAreAgora gave me enough to think about that I will be releasing a second episode in a few weeks where I share a commentary track about it. In this ep, we discuss beehives, invisible hands, and a search for emergent optimism. podcast.nsavides.com/WeAreAgora

@mbrendan1 Based on that definition, the exponential increase in progress we have seen has then led to a similar shift in our means. @byronreese in the video sums it up best on the impact on "the ends." Overall, I think it is a compounding relationship with a strong feedback loop.

So, John, as I said, you made me read “We are Agora” as the last book of 2023…. And it was every bit what you promised! The contents, the details, and the writing style!! @byronreese is a real master. Yep, “brilliant” says it correctly. His main point seemed quick to get, but then Byron managed to suck me into the details. It was just on the right level so I couldn’t stop reading and engaging mentally. I enjoyed the core thought of a global super-organism, and what this means for our existence, on many levels. Fascinating. An intellectual challenge and well presented. But then, to my surprise, at least during the first half to two thirds of the book that laid the foundation for the finale - I felt like I learned some valuable NEW fact, pretty much on every page! Me reading A LOT, this really is rare. It made the last book I read in 2023 one of my two TOP choices. The other one is completely different, although related on some strange level - “Broken Money” by @LynAldenContact! Lyn’s book made me travel to Argentina, where I am now, among others exploring whether and how a country manages to transition from monetary-inflationary craziness. I wonder what “We are Agora” will drive me do in 2024. I think I already have some idea and will share it when it becomes more immediate. Thanks John!

Every 50 years, we lose half of all jobs, but how do we lose half and still maintain full employment? We covered many topics on the podcast this week with @databrett & @byronreese, but through all the philosophical discussions, debates on technology, and negative noise out there...I still came away with a strong sense of hope & optimism.
