It is coercive for disabled people to be asked over and over again: “Do you want a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) Order?” Nondisabled people are asked once. Disabled people are asked repeatedly. It is devaluation. It is ableism.

@MichaelPlaxton Your comments and this response exhibit a profound misunderstanding of disability in general (and the conditions you mention, in particular). Brilliant current and future law students will read this and question their ability to learn law. What a shame.

Again, no one(?) doubts that you can't be accommodated on the basis that you lack judgement or literacy or clear thinking. But can you be accommodated for being unable to concentrate for long periods of time?

No one disputes that some students should get accommodations - eg, the blind or those who have trouble physically writing or typing. What will make this issue explode are the number of students getting accommodations for anxiety, ADHD, or other concentration-related conditions.

A third of his law school classmates were getting extra time on tests. He launched a petition to get the school to reevaluate its policies. Administrators told him he would be investigated for “bullying” and “creating a hostile environment” for disabled students. He dropped it.

My “special needs”are the product of a society, government and educational system that fails to provide access and accommodation and then places the blame on disabled people. Special needs” are human needs.

People are not “garbage.” People are not “burdens.” Whether it be directed towards immigrants, disabled people or any other marginalized people, this dehumanization is vile and must stop.

Got some job interview feedback that I didn’t display enough enthusiasm for the job which is tricky. It’s a job interview, of course I’m enthusiastic, I’m just autistic and have flat affect, I’m not terrific at my face, tone and words matching my emotions 🫠

"In Canada, the underrepresentation of disabled individuals in the workforce—especially in politics—is a significant, yet overlooked, issue." We need more voices of PWD in govt so that policy development such as the CDB better represent lived experience. hilltimes.com/story/2024/10/…
