Ottawa is moving at breakneck speed. But as the government makes major decisions and spends billions, Canada’s system for holding it accountable is facing its biggest crisis in decades. buff.ly/ZQoK7Ay

“In the corner in the room there was a screen and there I could see the numbers going up. Then I figured that this is the amount of eggs that they're retrieving and it felt like a scoreboard in the operating room.” - Sana Al-Badri (IVF egg donor) buff.ly/O3UoSD1

Investigative reporter Laura Robinson and Senator Marilou McPhedran were accused of faking government documents. The RCMP were called in followed quickly by the Senate Ethics Committee. Several weeks ago that committee finally handed down their verdict. For years Robinson could say little about the case. But today she brings the whole story to Canadaland. The story of her part in an operation to save the lives of hundreds of Afghan footballers. buff.ly/mhwpPrv

With yet another Canadian legacy media company, Corus Entertainment, at risk of being taken over by an asset management company, we’re lamenting the state of ownership across Canadian media, and what it means for the future of bingeable true crime. It's rare that I get a chance to sit for a long-form interview and really get into the details of intelligence issues. In this @CANADALAND podcast, @noorazrieh97 and I talk Iran, shooter-for-hire (crime as a service), state-sponsored assassinations, and much, much more. We cover a lot of ground trying to answer one question: Were the shootings in Toronto paid for by Iran? It's an important conversation, and one I hope you'll take the time to listen to. I'm particularly pleased because this is the first time I'm talking through some of my @SOCACE_Research research on state-sponsored assassinations, and the state actor selection model that explains what kind of actors states choose to conduct their covert operations (proxies, surrogates, contractors, or recruited individuals). I also get to use the term "murder broker" a few times. eyes 👀

I'm on Canadaland this week, talking about what the government & farms are trying to hide by outlawing undercover investigations at animal farms. (Spoiler: They're trying to stop the videos of sick, sad, and caged animals—regularly kicked and beaten by farmers.)

According to a U.S. criminal complaint, Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi allegedly claimed members of his network carried out the shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto and an attack on a synagogue. What do we actually know? buff.ly/a0ZDco5
