At a rooftop gathering in Atlanta this week, dozens of women gathered for an event to hear about CARE’s focus on maternal health and prepare 200 CARE packages for mothers that are part of the nonprofit’s pilot program in Georgia. Into bags emblazoned with the CARE logo went baby wipes, socks, a manual breast pump, a teething toy and other items. @ajc @atlairportnews ajc.com/herstory/2026/…

Conflict in the #MiddleEast is fueling a growing global hunger crisis. In #Somalia, disruptions and rising costs linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have caused the price of life-saving treatment for severely malnourished children to more than triple, putting critical care further out of reach for families already facing extreme hunger. As global conflict drives up food, fuel, and aid delivery costs, vulnerable communities are paying the price. care.org/media-and-pres…

Nearly 100 CARE staff came together at our Atlanta headquarters this week to celebrate 80 years of the CARE PACKAGE® — a symbol of compassion, solidarity, and hope since 1946. From packing disaster relief supply kits to reflecting on the legacy of the very first CARE PACKAGE® delivered to postwar Europe, the event honored the power of community and collective action across generations. As humanitarian needs continue to rise around the world and here at home, CARE staff marked this milestone by assembling hygiene kits and essential supplies that will support women, families, and communities facing crisis. Eighty years ago, on May 11, 1946, the first CARE PACKAGE® boxes arrived in Le Havre, France, delivering relief and hope to families recovering from the devastation of World War II. Today, CARE is marking the anniversary by relaunching the CARE PACKAGE and hosting a series of community CARE PACKAGE events nationwide. care.org/media-and-pres…

Thrilled to talk with @CarlNasman on @BBCAMERICA over the weekend about how conflict in the Middle East is pushing up #food and #fuel costs and making it harder to get help to families who need it most - just as #hunger is growing and #aid budgets are shrinking.

Across South Sudan, families are reaching a breaking point as conflict, displacement, global supply chain disruptions and the collapse of essential services in some parts of the country are fueling a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis. The latest IPC analysis warns that 7.8 million people are facing crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity. bit.ly/4cHz043

Hunger has risen for six consecutive years, while conflict and extreme weather events continue to disrupt production and supply chains. At the same time, nearly $1 trillion worth of food is lost or wasted every year, enough to feed over a billion people. A new CARE report highlights urgent and practical solutions to strengthen food security, support women farmers, and build climate resilience. Read more: care.org/media-and-pres…

Six months after #HurricaneMelissa, Carrol is still rebuilding her life in #Jamaica. When the storm hit, she and her family sheltered in a small outdoor toilet for hours as their home was torn apart around them. When it passed, there was nothing left—just debris where their house once stood. Today, she’s rebuilt what she can with tarps, scrap wood, and resilience. But daily life is still a struggle: no electricity, no running water, and an uncertain path ahead. Across Jamaica, many families are facing the same reality. With local partners, CARE is supporting communities with emergency aid, cash assistance, and tools to help rebuild homes and livelihoods. Read more: care.org/news-and-stori…

#HurricaneMelissa: A Category 5 storm left 1.5 million people impacted, thousands of homes destroyed, and entire livelihoods washed away across the Caribbean. Six months later, many families are still living in temporary shelters, struggling to access nutritious food, and working to rebuild what was lost. Women and girls are carrying the heaviest burden—facing increased risks of violence, lost income, and limited access to essential services. And yet, women-led organizations have also been at the forefront of recovery—driving solutions that are rebuilding lives and restoring dignity. With the next hurricane season just weeks away, one thing is clear: recovery alone isn’t enough. Communities need the tools, resources, and investment to be prepared before the next storm hits. Read more about what’s needed now and how CARE is supporting communities across Jamaica: care.org/media-and-pres…
