Compassionate Alternative Response Team - SF

If you have been following us for a while now, you know that in last year's budget cycle we secured just about $3million in funding to begin the implementation of CART- a community based alternative to the police response of homelessness.

@scott_anderson @ketocrazy143 We are not an organization, we are a collective of community organizations. Beyond that, this is not the issue we work on. If you are looking for the individual opinions of orgs in our collective I would encourage you to do that individual follow up.

@ketocrazy143 @CART_SF They seem to be advocating for letting the unhoused setup encampments anywhere they want and convincing businesses and residents to be OK with that.

It was a privilege to speak at @CART_SF’s rally last week. @SFDefender is a strong CART proponent because we see too often the harm that police can cause unhoused and vulnerable members of our community, many of whom are our clients. 1/

On May 5, 2023 the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) used funding allocated by the Board of Supervisors for the stakeholder designed Compassionate Alternative Response Team and instead awarded funding to Urban Alchemy for a program called Community Response Team (CRT).
