👏🎉 Congratulations to Prof. PAN Jianwei on receiving the 3rd UNESCO–Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences. He is the first Chinese scientist to receive this honor. Prof. PAN Jianwei is a world-leading expert in quantum optics, quantum communications and quantum computation at the University of Science and Technology of China. He is recognized for his seminal contributions to large-scale secure quantum communications and scalable quantum computation. A 100-million-year-old traffic jam? Not quite. 🕷️ We've uncovered the earliest known fossil evidence of queueing behavior in terrestrial arthropods—13 juvenile mites preserved in Cretaceous amber, marching head to tail in a nearly perfect line. What did the first vertebrate brain look like? 🧠 We've created the first 3D single-cell atlas of an entire lamprey brain, revealing new clues about the origins of the vertebrate brain. The lamprey is a jawless fish whose body plan has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. The results show that the molecular blueprint of complex vertebrate brains was already taking shape more than 450 million years ago. The study offers a remarkable glimpse into the origins of our own brains—and how evolution gave rise to the incredible diversity of vertebrate life. 👁️The cosmic blue eye has a pulse. Using the MeerKAT radio telescope array in South Africa, we detected faint radio pulses from 1E 1207.4−5209—a neutron star long thought to be radio silent. 🌍🚀 Meet the "Space Eye" aboard China's space station The Multi-Spectral Imaging Carbon Observatory (MUSICO), also known as the Tianyun Camera, was launched aboard Tianzhou-10 last month. Designed to detect CO₂ and CH₄ from orbit, MUSICO enables high-resolution monitoring of greenhouse gases across low- and mid-latitude regions worldwide, helping to pinpoint major emission sources. It was jointly developed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
