The age of ABS is upon us, and we’re excited to announce some stats related to the new challenge system! To introduce them, we wanted to share a couple interesting pieces of data from spring training.🧵
Gonna leave this here, and also remind you that this diagram applies for any/all instances of boundaries (ie out of bounds, outside of the 18-yard box etc).
#InstantReplay out soon!
@CASmithNYC@andrew_wiebe I never claimed to be unbiased. I'm only pointing out your "consensus" of a bunch of biased people is meaningless.
Again with the monitor 🤦♂️ dawg i don't know how to explain to you, this isn't what the monitor is for. Learn the rules. It's not used for that purpose.
@Jumpon260711@andrew_wiebe Bro, one of your only tweets is a retweet of a Lamine Yamal shirt giveaway. Don’t pretend like you’re above bias.
And good, I’m glad you agree. Unfortunately, it wasn’t looked at extensively. Way too close and serious a call to not at least look at the monitor.
@CASmithNYC@andrew_wiebe Yeesh what is your problem, you're so aggressive for no reason.
You pointed to the "consensus" of fans but a consensus from a biased source is not very compelling.
And to answer your question yes, of course
@MLSonAir I haven’t watched a ton of Nashville this season. But in that second leg against Miami, they seemed to be very sloppy on the counter. If a team can press effectively, they might have issues.
But nobody’s done it against them yet. So for now, it’s hard to argue against them.
@Jumpon260711@andrew_wiebe Thanks for not engaging at all and just hand-waving.
Regardless, let’s take fans out of it completely.
Based on the footage and how tight the margin is (and the implications), do you think that was handled with enough scrutiny?
Yes or no?
@andrew_wiebe@Jumpon260711 I can’t speak for everyone, but a vast majority of the people that have seen the play “clearly and obviously” think it’s a bad call. Even fans of rival teams. (Via social media at least)
I think that’s a fair assessment of the consensus.
@CASmithNYC@Jumpon260711 Because clear and obvious can vary between referees on plays that are not "factual" ie interpretation of the handball law or what constitutes a foul.
The question being asked/answered on the DSC play = Is the ball clearly and obviously OUTSIDE the 18 when the 'keeper handles?
@andrew_wiebe@Jumpon260711 OK, so explain to me this:
If VAR is only supposed to be used to correct a clear and obvious error, then why do we see refs lvisit the monitor and not change their call?
That happens plenty, no?
@andrew_wiebe@Jumpon260711 That was an awfully quick check. Unless the protocol has completely changed, I’ve seen refs in there for way longer for way less, even long after the alleged infraction.
Like, not even a trip to the monitor for a judgement call? That’s what this all is, right?
@andrew_wiebe@Jumpon260711 Maybe it is. Again, if you want to die on the hill that DSC definitely didn’t handle the ball outside the box, then that’s your prerogative.
I’ve made my opinion known. At the very least, it should’ve been looked at extensively.
@andrew_wiebe@Jumpon260711 I’m not gonna argue in a circle. I think it’s completely disingenuous for someone to make an argument using an objectively bad angle, worse than the one I provided.
@Jumpon260711@andrew_wiebe You gave me a perfect angle after the fact.
Also, if you think the call we were originally taking about is a matter of 1mm, then you need your eyes checked.
@CASmithNYC@andrew_wiebe I gave you a perfect angle and perfect quality now. Argument is the same. Grainy cellphone video isn't going to help you determine a 1 mm difference when it's hard even in perfect conditions
@Jumpon260711@andrew_wiebe Bro, there is no guessing. You can tell DSC’s body is completely outside the 18, and his arm’s are even farther out. It’s clear his hands are touching the ball, too.
@Jumpon260711@andrew_wiebe You’re saying it’s too close to tell, but also using a worse angle to argue it’s out.
The angle I posted is way closer to being aligned with the 18-yard line, and gives information on DSC’s body angle.
The angle you shared gives no helpful information whatsoever.
@CASmithNYC@andrew_wiebe It's not about the angle, it's about how hard it is to judge a 1 mm difference from a cellphone video taken from afar. Even with a perfect angle, HD quality close up it's hard to tell with the naked eye
