@PenguinRandomCA From the 2020 vantage point the suggestions were quite hilarious, but also somewhat said that those really were the expectations for women and that they should strive to be the perfect wife

@PenguinRandomCA Baked Alaska was actually a family recipe so that brought back lovely memories. I read the ebook version so did not any of the actual recipes in the book. I loved the handvwritten notes. I have a cookbook with my Great Grandmother's handwriting...although I never met her.

Q5. On the topic of food, has anyone tried any of the recipes found in the novel? Do you have your own collection of old family recipes like the ones Elsie left Nellie? 🍽️ #PenguinBookClub

@PenguinRandomCA Some recipes definitely reflected the era. Some were family recipes. Some of my most treasured recipes come from my grandmother and are tied to memories of family celebrations or simply everyday life.

Q4. Let's talk about the FOOD! Food plays a major part throughout the novel in bonding the characters, but also in highlighting power dynamics. Did you relate to the ways Nellie and Alice emotionally connected to the dishes they prepared? #PenguinBookClub
